Or was that made up by the Bible authors or only inferred by its readers?

I think as a world, we should avoid all extreme sects of every religion. Pastafarism is no different. Should we start bombing these places that house such terrorist activity?

If evolution is an unproven theory and doesnt hold water, can someone please explain to me how 30K species has evolved in 1.5 million species??? (BTW, the FACT of Noah's Ark was obtained directly from the Center for Creation "Science" - which also has a painting of the insides of Noah's Ark - did you know there were dinosaurs on the boat!?!?!)

Before I get the quip about this being micro-evolution and not macro evolution, allow me to remind everyone - evolution has nothing to do with reaching a higher life path or reaching higher intelligence. Evolution does not require a dog to become a speaking entity, nor does it require a whale to turn into a land mammal. In this case, I am showing that 30K species has indeed become 1.5 million species....these are distinct, recognizably differing species, not some micro-evolutionary change. Please explain.....

Is that a case of anti-religious bias again? After we get Evolution taken out of our science classes, should we get the concept of the so called "Dark Ages" taken out of our history classes? And why is the rise if humanism called the enlightenment as if their could be any light outside of God. Is that another reason Satan is referred to as Lucifer which means "light bringer"? Is that another bible prophecy fulfilled during the renaissance?

The 2 great prophets of western monotheism: Jesus and Mohammed.

To me, they were visionary and wise men. I see them as normal people that were unique to their time, that they had nothing divine in them but just were extraordinary men. Inspired I'd say.

Jesus and Mohammed were carismathic and friendly, and they taught their followers important things. But, I don't think any of Jesus's miracles were real. I think that they were added to the Bible many years later by the bizantines, or some other christian authority at that time. Islam sees Jesus as one of the greatest messengers of God.

As for Mohammed, I think that he wrote the Qur'an in a massive inspiration that he had that people understood, was God.

Two great men that admire. That's why more than a third of the world trust in what they said. Don't you?

LEVITICUS
CHAPTER XI

These are the things that breed in the waters, and which it is lawful to eat. All that hath fins, and scales, as well in the sea, as in the rivers, and the pools, you shall eat.
10. But whatsoever hath not fins and scales, of those things that move and live in the waters, shall be an abomination to you,
11. And detestable: their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall avoid.
12. All that have not fins and scales, in the waters, shall be unclean.

Just asking some serious questions today, asking about morality, some have mentioned in previous questions that God's Laws play a role in their thinking about morality.

Here is one of the God's Laws: Leviticus 25:44 And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have—from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves.

So the question for everyone is, Is it moral and ethical of me to own slaves, if they are from nations that are around me?

That Bible verse is straight out of the New King James Version.

Thanks.

I think that science has answered some of the questions that we previously needed religion to answer, such as how the earth was created, how different species came about etc. I propose, that the religions of today unanomously adopt all ideas that are scientifically sound, and concentrate new efforts on topics that have yet to be explained or things that we need to discuss for the future. Examples of this could be, what is the religious response to threats of global warming? How should we view stem cell research given that inevtiably one country or the other will succeed with it. If people can be cloned, what rights do they have? If proof of alien life was ever discovered, how shoudl religion respond?

There are also the classic unaswered questions about man's purpose on earth, how we should treat one another, What existed before the universe and why was life created in the first place.

I think that dwelling on ancient dogma will only destroy religion as we know it today.

Personally, I despise God. But I'm not here to start a riot. All I want is for you to stop it with the "May God so-and-so you and your soul be this-and-that for God has abcdefg..." etc in everyone's face whenever you finish a sentence because, you may not know this but, it feels like an insult. So far I have not said anything that provoked a Christian's belief, but all of you have provoked mine because you, being fully aware that I have absolute no interest in God, carried on stuffing me with God's blessings when you know that I do not want it. For your information, this is quite a disrespectful act, so keep them to your own kind, thank you. :)

For athiests: where do you get ultimate values? As in, is it ALWAYS wrong for, say, all men everywhere for all time to rape little boys, or is it just wrong for you? If you say that it is wrong for everyone throughout all time, upon what basis do you say so? It seems that if evolution is true, and we're just talking meat-sacks, then we're no more bound to a system of morals than a fish is bound to not kill other fish. But maybe I'm not seeing something?

Some people think that humans are special. In fact, they think humans were created as something completely separate from "those" animals.

When I compare humans to animals (specifically mammals), I notice a lot of similarities.

Physical:
Eyes, ears, nose, head, fingers/toes, hair, teeth
Same 5 senses
Systems: digestive, nervous, etc.
Sex organs

Behavioral:
Sneeze
Yawn
Sleep
Emotions
Sexual desires

How can you say a human is not an animal? How can you say that we aren't the same? I will be very disappointed to find out that god made me special but decided to make me crap once a day just like my dog does.

The Desiderata -- Max Ehrmann, 1927

This is Max Ehrmann's timeless philosophical statement.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

The bible has many contradictions to itself. In one part it says incest is a sin but adam and eve's children comitted incest. It says all men are liars but man is the one who translated the bible from god. By the bible that means what they translated is a lie. In parts it say the earth is a round but then in others it gives notions it is flat. There are so many more contradictions like these. If you believe the bible is the word of god and all true how can you believe in the stuff that contradicts other stuff. If you believe in one that means you cannot believe in the other so aren't you admitting the bible is not absolute.

Islam is peace loving religion, it allows to marry with christian and jew women which mean Islam allows strong ties with other religions. Islam orders to live with peace with neighbours and so on. The few ignorant apparently muslims but in true sence they can not be called muslims are responsible for present trends. Why people blame all muslims for the act of few terrorists which were initialy trained by America for her benefit against USSR.

I was talking to some Christian friends, and they told me something a bit shocking to me. They didn't believe they would be judged! Maybe this is common belief amongst Christians, maybe it is not. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

First, since Paul said 'we must all appear' he wasn't excluding himself right?

And...he was always saying the believers were the body of Christ. And that the Church is Christ's body. When he says we will appear before the judgement seat of Christ to be judged of the things done in his body, is it referring to what is done in Christ's body, or the Church???

Back when Popes were infallible, Galileo brought evidence that the earth is not flat, but round, and orbits the sun. He was convicted for his crimes by the inquisition under (infallible) Pope Urban VIII. Should I still believe in a flat earth?

In the 18th century, Christian clergy preached that lightening is an expression of God's wrath. Ben Franklin demonstrated that lightening is electricity, and invented the lightening rod to mitigate God's wrath. Wouldn't that make God even angrier?

Now that the human genome sequence is known, we find that it is littered with fossil genes (see Scientific American, Aug '06, "The Real Life of Pseudogenes"). Mutated remnants of genes for making vitamin C and for olfaction (smell sense) are but two examples. Should I still believe in a one-day creation of homo sapiens?

So in previous questions I've asked about morality, and we've uncovered that sometimes people are guided by "set in stone" ie, 10 Commandments, or "God's Law"

One of God's Laws is not to steal. Some people believe God's very own hand wrote in stone DO NOT STEAL.

So this question is for everyone, based on your morality, (which for some will be based on God's morality).

Hypothetical: I am broke. I have no money. I am without family or friends. I walk by an outdoor restaurant and see a man sitting by himself his waiter brings him a sandwhich. The man gets up to go to the bathroom. No one is watching.

Is it moral of me to take that sandwhich? Assume if you will, in this hypothetical, that I don't speak the language, say i'm in a foreign country. The hypothetical person is a 29 year old male. College educated, just doesn't speak the language of the country he is in.
