Strange, I thought it had more to do with pagan's burning the library at Alexandria than with religion. Let me think. Burning the sum of man's knowledge or belief that Jesus is the Christ.. I gave it a lot of thought (since it's so obvious).. I guess burning the knowledge base... Jim

During The Dark Ages The Roman empire collapsed and a lot of knowledge was cast aside. Technologically Humanity regressed.
It was a period of petty warlords and wars as the struggle to give birth to nations occurred contrary to some opinions the church during this period was mankind salvation as what technical knowledge survived this period did so through the works of monks also what records we have of this time are monastic.
Monastries were the power house that drove human learning or re-learning as we sought to re-discover lost secrets. These were the dark ages where greed and ignorance sought to extinguish the flame of humanity and the church kept a light burning for us
So in answer to your question No they should not be removed.
The rise of humanism is called the age of enlightment because it was when humanity took great leaps forward in understanding their world and began to see the world in the light god bathed it in instead of only having a latin bible interpreted for the people began to read the word of god for themselves and were able to make the same choices god gave to adam that some chose a different path is their perogative that is ingrained in all humanity since the garden of eden but as many as turned away more chose to worship god. Just for the record I was born to the christian faith but no longer practice and if i could be said to practice any religon i would be Taoism

Because the world definitely went Dark when the Church took over. Rome had indoor plumbing (a huge feat back then), wonderful libraries and universities, roads... everything except electricity. When the Church took over, the libraries were either burned or closed down... indoor plumbing in Rome was neglected (YUK)... everything that made that era one of Knowledge was wiped out by the Church.
Lucifer isn't Satan... that's a Christian Tradition that can't be backed up by the Bible. Lucifer was in reference to a King of Babylon. ^_^ But, as far as I can see, all religions are in the dark and want to keep their followers in the dark. That's why they put out blatant lies about one another.

It's considered the "Dark Ages" because there are few surviving historical documents that have survived the period, so we don't know as much about that era as we could. And "Prehistoric" means that it was before written history.
Not everything is about religion, you know. There's a lot more to the world than just the Bible. It's too bad that you won't let yourself experience all the multiplicity and diversity that the world has to offer because of your narrow scope on life.

because it was full of mindless killing in the name of God, witch killings that rarely were actually guilty of ANYTHING and PLAGUE.
ALSO the Earth was in a mini-IceAge at the time. It was on average 20degrees colder daily across the entire planet.
BTW, Evolution and the Dark Ages SHOULD be taught. It's part of history. Get over yourselves. Just because some part of the religious community doesn't like it, doesn't mean it should be taken away.

In Britain and the United States, the phrase "Dark Ages" has occasionally been used by professionals, with severe qualification, as a term of periodization. This usage is intended as non-judgmental and simply means the relative lack of written record, "silent" as much as "dark

Because Scientific progress stalled.
It was the dark ages because of the plauges and such not becuse of religion precicely.
Scientific progress was basicly on hold for those years, and was not truely restarted until the invention of the printing press, which ironicly its frist run produced bibles.
At a fraction of the cost that they were before I might add.

Because it was when the church supressed learning & the sciences & killed people who did not agree with church doctrine unless they recanted, like Galileo. Bible prophecy is an unconscious fake, since anything in the bible can be termed a prophecy once an event has happened.

Because knowledge went into the dumper and anything that did not toe the line with what the Bible said was heresy.
How much real knowledge was destroyed?
