jebus_n_fries, you are damn right to conclude that bible is not absolute. And, bible is a human creation and saying that it has come from God or some unknown power is a myth! The things mentioned therein may or may not be applicable in the present day world. For instance, the earth being round - it is a scientific conclusion. Similarly, everything has a scientific explanation today. There are also many shortcomings in the bible, as in any other books such as Quran. It is interpreted in different ways too by different people to suit different needs or situations. JUST BE WHAT YOU ARE, EVOLVE YOUR OWN HUMAN VALUES AND FOLLOW THEM IN A WAY NOT INTEREFERING WITH OR DISTURBING THE EXISTENCE OF OTHER LIVES!

You are failing to read the biblie in its entirity. This causes confusion. I know, its how I started reading and I had a lot of confusion. As I read more and more and re read, things started falling into place.
Now as for the bible. The bible is called the living word, meaning I can read it over and over and over again and always learn something new. Unlike my school textbooks, which once read and learned, offer nothing new when read again.
The bible is the inspired word of God, written by God, through the hand of man. No other book will teach you new things all the days of your life just by re reading it.
Incest did not exist as a "do not do" until the times of Leviticus. Up until that point it was perfectly fine and accepted to marry within your family. The bible even records marriages that were between brother and half sister. This would be Abraham and Sarah. Abraham became the father of all natiions, so at this point and time, brother and sister marriage was still allowed.
Slavery was allowed, and still is for that matter, but culturally we no longer allow it, and that is our choice. Not a biblical commandment to keep slaves or be one.
However , God did stop the practice of interfamily marriages when the time was right (his timing, not ours). We do not know why he stopped it when he did, but we speculate of gene pools and such. We just know that he did stop it, and wouldnt have done so, if there were not a reason to do so.
When the bible seems to say the earth is flat, as in the angels spread out to the four corners of the earth. We use that very expression today, and we know full well that the earth is not flat. IT was written that way to show that the angels were not leaving any earthly ground untouched. Not a statement that the earth was flat.
So, yes, the bible is absolute, even the parts that make us cringe or cry, all true and all inspired by the hand of GOD.

Your references are way out of context.
There would be no way for Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply" without their children marrying. This was BEFORE the laws of Moses when incest was labeled as a sin. That is why the law was written so blatantly, because it was new.
Men are liars... but prophets speak the perfect words of God. The books of the Bible were written by God through His prophets, who He specially selected to write.
The instances of the world being flat... all those descriptions are figurative... not literal. Also, if you figure what period of time this was written in and what people (the common people... not prophets) knew of the world back then... this was the common belief.
The contradictions you mention... they are only apparant contradictions. If read in the proper context, they can be cleared up. Some things in the Bible are confusing, but are not too difficult to understand. I'm a Christian and I have questions sometimes... but after asking around and praying and researching I can figure out why it says certain things.
We don't say it contains no contradictions ignorantly. Trust me. There's a reason.

If you are in a car accident, and then ask 2 different people what happen, you can get 2 different stories, depending on perspective and other issues. The fact you get 2 stories shows that there is truth in the reporting, not one side or the other.
Yes, there are many discrepencies, as well as many different writers. For example, if one person looks at and writes about the heads side of a coin, and the other the tails. You would never believe they were talking about the same coin, yet they are.
This is the best description I can give for your question.
By the way, if you try to understand the message of the Bible, what is being said, in so many ways, if you boil it down, that message is eternal and true.

Great Question!
What some people view as contradiction are simply presented as two truths that are meant to bring balance.
For instance God is a God of justice and in order for justice to occur, people who commit heinous acts must be judged and condemned. On the other end of that spectrum, it is also true that God is fully of mercy, and wishes that would be reconciled with their Creator, so God offers forgiveness to all who will confess their shortcomings, and believe in the one God sent to be an instrument of God's mercy - Jesus.
On the specific issues you ask about - I would love to help you find the balance in those apparent contradictions - I will search for things you mention, but if you would help me, if you know specific places where you believe the Bible is teaching apparent contradictions, that would certainly help.
Shalom.

The bible does not contradict itself. The bible is The word, breathed by God. Man will take one line, and twist it to mean something entirely different, but it's usually people with a hate on for God and His word.

Sorry but there are NO contradictions in the bible. There is something that you are not understanding, you are taking a lot of it out of context. Remember he said lean not upon you own understanding. All you need is a bible study and you will begin to understand. Whether you attend a Church, Synagouge, Temple, Masc, Kingdom Hall, etc. Where ever you go, ask for someone to study with you, to show you in the bible to help you along the way.

I am a Muslim amd has 100% believe in Bible. Regarding your confusion.....These all are evulutionary things. and not contradictions. We the Muslims think that the Bible which is present now a days had been modified by the people and is not the same which was actual but still the basic thing are true.

I believe in the Bible as far as it is translated correctly. Many wicked people many generations ago altered parts of the bible. That's why I also believe in modern revelation. Like that God will answer your prayers. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him." So I guess I am admitting the bible is not absolute, at least the one we have now, but one day, I believe we will recieve the original bible, unaltered, in God's own time.
