Jesus is important because sin tore a rift between man and God. Without Jesus no amount of prayer or good deeds/works is enough to reach God. Jesus died for our sins, so that through Him we could be saved.

Because we are not all God's children.

Christians wholeheartedly believe New Testament verses such as John 1:11-13 and 1 John 3:2 teach that acceptance of Jesus is required in order to be called a child of God:

John 1:11 "He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Only those born of a father are the children of that father. Would you call all the children in the world your children if they were'nt born of your flesh and blood?
To be a child of God requires having the seed of God in you. This seed is the gift of holy spirit which is Christ in You (Hence the name Christian: Christ In - first mentioned by people of Antioch).
This seed can be received by confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead.
(Romans 10:9 and10)

"As many as RECEIVED HIM became the children of God."

So, no, we are not all God's children....wish we were.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, none comes unto the Father, but by Him. John 14:6 not direct quote.

We are not God's children until we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. And believe in our hearts that he is the only true Messiah.

Ben,

I believe that Jesus is of the utmost importance, but not for the same reasons as most so-called Christians.(No disrespect intended). First, we are not all God's children. We are ALL God's potential children. We have all been invited, to enter into eternal life with Him, but certain conditions must be met first. Thus we have the importance of Jesus. Most "believers" will tell you that we are saved, and enter into the Kingdom of God, through the blood sacrifice of Jesus, which paid the price for our sins. I used to believe that, but not anymore. I struggled for years, trying to figure out how Jesus could just forgive anyone who repented of their sins, right on the spot. Also, if the blood of Jesus were absolutely needed for salvation, how did Enoch, Elijah, and Moses, a murderer, enter the Kingdom before Jesus was even born? Then there is the most important question of all, and the one that nails it for me. How could a God, Whose name is Love, and is said to be merciful above all things, demand that His sinless, perfect Son, be tortured, and crucified, in order to relieve us of the responsibility for our acts? Wouldn't that make Him worse than Molec, or Baal? In fact, God states that those who sacrifice their children, are not doing His will. That in fact, it never even entered His mind. Doesn't it also say, that every act of ours, shall be brought into judgment? And that we shall be rewarded according to our works? I don't think I could truly love anyone, who demanded the death of someone as lovely as Jesus. With God, all things are possible. Don't tell me that there was no other way. God, can forgive anybody He wants to, any time He wants to, just like us. As to the importance of Jesus, It was what He came to teach us, that is of the utmost importance. He brought us a message, both simple, and elegant: "The Kingdom of God, is within you". When we come to God as humble children, and invite Him into our hearts, He sends His Spirit into us, and bonds with us. We have become the Children of God, because we have chosen to make Him our Father, and obey His Will, at all times. Without this Spiritual Rebirth, Jesus says that we shall not enter into the Kingdom of God. He did not say that without His blood, we shall not enter the Kingdom of God. If the Spirit of God, is not dwelling inside of you, no amount of Anybodie's blood, is going to make you a child of God.

Because of Him believers are called sons.He is the only way to God and to salvation. He came to the world to win souls and any one who believes Jesus is Christ our saviour will become His brother and as a family, God is our father. He is the only son of God but believers are the adopted sons.

The men who walked the world during the days of Christ were wonderfully religious men who strove to keep the Law perfectly. They were much better at it than I could ever be.. Yet in the passage below they are not called Children of God...

John 8:38-44
They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

I guess this mean if you are not a Child of God by faith in Christ that you too are of your father the devil........Jim

Jesus is important because He became our living sacrifice, without Him no one would be able to enter into Heaven in this generation.
