I live in New Zealand. I'm 14 and these holidays I would love to make myself useful by offering my services or something and helping others. I would like to make nz a friendlier place (if thats possible! lol). I want some other people to notice my work. What can I do? Smile in public etc.?

Why have it simple with sweetness?
Why have it rough with hate?
Why have it loving with tenderness?
Poetry is transparent from the inside.
Boundryless from the outside.

My parents worked at a factory when I was a kid and made decent money for the times $14/hr. The factory closed down and having no college education they were forced to work at a fast food restaurant and a gas station. They held two jobs each, worked their way through college, both got degrees, and now make $50,000 (mom) and $70,000 (dad) a year each. The process took 10 years but they did it.

What I don't get is how some people just stay in those low wage jobs? I've seen people there in their 40's and it always makes me sad that they would choose that life.

I know someone who loves to say that shes pretty, nice, generous etc. even displaying her shoe collection and bmw (loan) all the time and keeps telling you about what she have even if you never ask anything about it in the first place...

I was in kindergarten. I had no idea what the wtc or the pentagon was. When my teacher came running in to turn on the tv with 5 other teachers I saw the smoke and thought it was a volcano and started to brag that I knew what volcanos were. I saw my mom in the school hall with thousands of other parents picking thier kids up. She told me everythong and took me to Wendy's. When I got home I put a flag on my window and prayed to the people who died and thier families. I was 5

I was a cashier all my life and only made one mistake of giving over $5 back and the customer was cool about it. Never was short or over.

NOW, I was at Costco the other day and an older man gave a clerk a $100 bill for a $36 total purchase. Clerk gave him back only $4 !!!. It was so shocking and obvious. He noticed it and asked for his $60 back which she gave him.
Mistake or no, but this was blatantly outrageous, and obvious.
Good thing he paid attention.
My Q is if a register is over $100s of dollars or more does the company keep it if no one comes forward?

incredibly unbelievable!.....whats the problem here....WHO has possibly been offended by a state song and why?.....its been the state song since 1913...almost 100 years and all of a sudden oops! someones feelings got hurt...there is one questionable word in the entire song and its darkie...why not just change the word....and by the way...nothing else in the song even suggests that the word darkie refers to any person or race....it could refer to a dark time or hour where its being used in the song...gimme a break!...how rediculous.....soon someone will be offended because we casually refer to anyplace below maryland and over to texas as the "Bible Belt"....sure its informal but some athiest, agnostic, or what-the-hell-ever religion is going to be "offended" by the connotation and will try to change heritage and a way of life forever because their toes were stepped on....where in the world is this going to end?....and Floridians ~ what do you think about the state song having to change?

I cringe at the ones that get tattoos of skulls, dragons, devils and demons. WTF is up with that? What's even worse are the people that get tattoos that will guarantee they'll never get a good job in their life. Then there are the tattoos in odd places that will have people questioning them for years. I really think it is an indicator of stupidity when you see anyone with a tattoo.

That was suitable for human habitation, how do you think we would divide up the land? Would we sell the land to whichever country could afford to purchase it? Or do you think the USA would move in and claim all the land for themselves??

Real excuses for the insurance company:

* A pedestrian hit me and went under my car.

* The guy was all over the place. I had to swerve a number of times before I hit him.

* I was driving my car out of the driveway in the usual manner, when it was struck by the other car in the same place it had been struck several times before.

* As I approached the intersection, a stop sign suddenly appeared in a place where no stop sign had ever appeared before. I was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident.

* The telephone pole was approaching fast. I was attempting to swerve out of its path when it struck my front end.

* To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front, I struck the pedestrian

* An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my vehicle and vanished.

* The pedestrian had no idea which direction to go, so I ran him over.

* I saw the slow-moving, sad-faced old gentleman as he bounced off the hood of my car.

One of my favorite things about small town Wyoming is on a cold winter day you can see a dozen cars outside the post office unlocked, empty, and engines running and NO ONE bothers them.

Can you do that?

My husbands company christmas party is this weekend and he has only been there 6 months. I don't know these people very well and they are planning on having people do karaokee and other stuff like that to claim prizes that they are drawing for. I am kinda shy especially around people I don't know. What should I do? Should I suck it up and possibly make a fool out of myself in front of these strangers for a potentially good prize, or decline and keep my dignity but risk looking like a prude? I know I could probably have a drink or two and possibly loosen up a bit but inside I am thinking I might have to get drunk to sing in front of people I dont know. (Basically I suck at carrying a tune!) I want to potray myself as a classy woman, not a sl*t or dork but I am 34 and don't want to act like an old lady either. Need some advise!

My parents told me about Mr. Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but less and less as time passed by. Today I read his obituary. Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance, for Common Sense had served us all so well for so many generations.

Obituary

Mr. Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. ! Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

For the people that got laughed at by others because they:
1. Talk squeaky and annoying
2. Talk extremely deep "as girls"
3. Talk extremely high "as guys"
4. Have a strong accent from another place
5. Speak really ghetto

I know a lot of people like with a British accent that tried to change their voice to fit the people around them. Same with people with a ghetto accent.

Our tenant moved to a different country. On the last day of inspection he intentionally hid a damage, obviously he didn't want to pay for it. We discovered it after he left. It will be hard to get him to pay for it. But I feel awful that he did this to us. Should I atleast contact him (we have his email) to let him know that we found the damage?
