Our tenant moved to a different country. On the last day of inspection he intentionally hid a damage, obviously he didn't want to pay for it. We discovered it after he left. It will be hard to get him to pay for it. But I feel awful that he did this to us. Should I atleast contact him (we have his email) to let him know that we found the damage?

He knows he did the damage and that you would discover it. Do nothing , if he has a conscience he will feel bad. Cut your losses. Put a clause in the contract for the next tenant to pay a non/refundable deposit should there be any damage at the end of the tenancy.

obviously he/she rented fromyou...not much you can do..keep the security deposit...or just suck up the loss..my parents used to have renters and i would help with any repairs...people break leasses all the time..in some cases its a tax write-off for the owners...emailing this person isnt going to do any good..if he/she hid the damage, they really could care less about what you have to say,,,..good luck

You may not get anywhere, but you may feel better, so yeah go ahead and email him. But I would check to see if there are any laws that work in your favor on the international scale about payments, you may have to contact a lawyer in his current country to get your money, if you want to take it that far...?

Get over it and move on...be more adroit with your inspections in the future.
