Improving myself and my country?

I live in New Zealand. I'm 14 and these holidays I would love to make myself useful by offering my services or something and helping others. I would like to make nz a friendlier place (if thats possible! lol). I want some other people to notice my work. What can I do? Smile in public etc.?

to make oneself a better person, the first thing he needs to do is not worry about other's noticing his good deeds. true character is within and need not be noticed by anyone but the doer.
