I don't know why, but I am.
I'd hate to be American.
I just love how we British have our unique culture.
British music is the best , so are the films.
Getting drunk on a Saturday night and heading down to the kebab shop at 2am ... class!!!! :D
Wobbling all over the road, hahaha. Love it mate.

I'm nineteen.
And yes, we do have bad teeth ...
But Americans all use whitener.
(Sorry I'm being stereotypical now.)
I am glad that Britain's ally is America, though. Bush is a legend :')

And give Gordon Brown a chance.
Cameron's been wanting to rip Labour to shreds, and now Blair's gone, he thinks he can because Brown is naive and a new PM.
The tories ... bah.

I am ashamed to be British because we're a nation of chavs and layabouts. We have no decent culture and our education system is a shambles.
The houses are too small and we're overcrowded and mentally ill because of poor living conditions and too much noise pollution.
The only good thing is that we have some beautiful countryside and coastline.

You are so closed minded. You don't have to hate anything to be proud to be British. Americans and British have their own unique features which make both wonderfully heritages to be part of....
I will tell you.. the British have no taste buds.... you might have beautiful architecture, quaint shops... but your food is like bland nursing home fare.... Yuck. British's gourmet pickings are curry (not even British) and pork-n-beans.
You should pick something a bit more envious when you are declaring your pride... getting drunk and hitting a kebab shop shows your age. I can get drunk and hit a restaurant at 2 AM too... doesn't make me a proud American. Heck, you can do that anywhere.
However, as an American, I LOVE to visit the UK. Gave my son an English name ... Blaec ... (pronounced Blake)...
I was a proud American .. until we elected that idiot twice. I'm choosing to be a world citizen because America isn't always showing itself with the American pride we once had....
........... Doesnt' make British better... because your idiot Blair went along with us.

I find it a little sad that being young in Britain now = drunk-smashed every weekend and staggering home seeing double, there's so much more people could be doing.
I'm glad to be British we've bought some of our culture up to date, kept the tried and true traditions and maintain a certain level of manners and compassion for the benefit of others.
On the other hand we also have loud-mouthed brats swearing in the streets and our faces, probably the worst record of binge drinking and basically we're a very small island that's sinking under the weight of the population. So yeah, there are both good and bad points to being British, generally i'm proud of my heritage but i'll probably still high-tail it out of here back to my families European routes by the time i'm 30.
(Yeah we have bad teeth, but at least most of our body parts are natural) ...sorry I just get tired of people saying that when often they resort to surgery to create "the perfect look" it seems kind of hypocritical somehow.

Yes I'm proud to be British. We might have "yob-culture" but that's not all we have. As you say we have a great film and music industry. Yes, our politicians aren't great but look at some countries and we are pretty lucky.
There are loads of bad things about Britain, but there are bad things about every country.
People living in Britain, whether born here or not, should embrace the British way of life and if they don't like it then shove off!

I am very proud to be British and even more proud to be SCOTTISH!
However, if i had been born in America, I probably would have been equally proud to be American.
My point is that I love my country.
I don't understand how anyone can say that they are ashamed of being British? They must be miserable.
I'm proud of the the culture, landscape and traditions and my native Gaelic language.

I'm American, and proud to be so, but am of British heritage (English, Scottish, and Irish). I am very proud of that. As my grandparents were the ones who came over from England, we still do a lot of British things and enjoy many aspects of the culture. We have many friends and distant relations in England, and our visits there have been a blast! They are so fun. The films, music, comedy, etc. that comes out of Britain is great! Thanks!
And the bad teeth thing is from a generation ago, so we don't think you have bad teeth. Like the French don't shower (except they don't). Glad to be your ally -- we all appreciate it.

Well....I am an American so...
but I do have family over there, the most time I spent at once was about a year and I must say I loved it there. Very unique culture, quite different from here in the US.

No cuz I'm AMERICAN! I LOVE being American. my country gives so much food and meds and money to less fortunate countries, it's amazing! They are SO generous! I love living where I do, it's beautiful. America has many cultures and it's very diverse, not the same old stuffy people everywhere. We are who we are. I am so glad you are proud to be British though. it really helps with the fact that you live there. Personally, I'd hate to be British, but that's just my opinion, having lived in the U.S. I know what you're missin'

I don't know, I loved being a kid growing up in the UK in the 80's, but Britain's changed for the worse. Everyone's so apologetic for being British. I live in Canada now and everyone's extremely proud to be Canadian, not matter what country you came from.
