I was amazed to find a stall selling raffle tickets for a hamper containing nothing but spirits and wine at my local fair - nothing unusual in that you might say but a lot of the ticket purchasers were children of 10 years and up.
Is there a law prohibiting this?

It seems so cruel, especially since the animal, mammal, etc. is in its natural environment that WE have invaded. I appreciate any honest answers from those who participate in this type of activity.

the best age of our lives? I worried about turning 30, I was nearly sectioned at the thought of being 40 and I considered means of doing away with myself should I ever survive to 50!
But here I am and it is just the greatest! Less responsibility, more money, more time, just the same pastimes (!) played with a lot more experience and cunning! So - the question again - do we just adjust to our age or is there really an optimum for the human being at his/her peak? What is/was your best era?

Ok I cannot take this job anymore and rather than just walk out, I compiled a letter of resignation. I timed it for one week instead of two. And the acting manager( she's actually on her way to being manager but isnt, quite yet. She's only the acting manager now because they've had seven ppl quit on them in the last two months including 1 manager who just went on break and never came back) but the acting manager told me one week is fine but she didnt seem 100 percent sure and really I have to answer to the Manager Manager. Anyway, I read somewhere that one to two weeks is standard if you're not under contract. It seems kind of unnatural to me for some reason. Is it alright if I put in a one week notice?

Anybody else feel this way?

I have lost weight but I know I am no where near where I should be. When my friends *STILL* get the guys it makes me feel like
my efforts aren't good enough. And it will be a long time untill I can get the last 50 pounds off to be treated equal in the dating world.

My company hired a girl to work with me in development. Shes quite large...overweight should I say? My guess is that she weighs about 200 lbs. She eats at her desk all the time and offers me food that I dont want. I think its cuz she doesnt want to be the only person eating all the time. Shes speaks so loud and always bugs me about things not realated to work. My coworkers give me a hard time and joke about her being fat and loud. I feel bad for her sometimes but most of the time I dont cuz shes imposing and opportunistic. I'd be lying if I said her being fat doesnt bother me too. I'm sorry but it not pleasant seeing her sweat everyday. I think the hardest part is that I feel so restricted I can't talk about dieting (which I do), working out or even say the word "fat" cuz she might take offense at it. If she would at least talk about her weight casually it would make things so much easier. Maybe she's in denial but frankly I think shes selfish. Could you work with a person like this?

Ok so I've been having this debate for a while but since I'm neither black nor african american It's probably sensible to get some other opinions. I personally think it's about time we start calling people with black skin black again and stop with the African American joke. Not everyone with black skin is of African decent, and more importantly I'm pretty sure people who's families have been American for generations don't always consider themselves to be of African heritage so much as just average americans who happen to have black skin. The only thing that all black people have in common is the color of their skin and that's not a bad thing. I'm white, I'm not ashamed to be white and I don't need to be called a "European Australian" I'm just white... a black person is black and if there were blue people they'd be blue, it's just a color.

I'm hoping that in a community of intellectuals this isn't going to spark a racist response. It's just a point of curiosity

Do you think that perhaps some sort of personality test or evaluative interview would be better than age at determining things like:

Who can get a drivers liscence?
Who can vote?
Who can legally consent to sex?
Who can buy legally buy alcohol/tobacco?
Who can see R rated movies or adult videos?
and so on...

Or do you think an age limit for these things is the best policy?

I don't support abortion but people that do say it's the womens choice to have a baby or not. What about men? Why don't they get a say in this? If men don't want a baby why don't they get any input? They have to pay child support and stuff so shouldn't they get a little input? And what if the man wants to keep the baby and the women doesn't? He helped create the baby shouldn't he have choices?
