It seems so cruel, especially since the animal, mammal, etc. is in its natural environment that WE have invaded. I appreciate any honest answers from those who participate in this type of activity.

I can't say why people hunt or fish......but I do think fishing is slightly more sporting than hunting.

In case you forgot, Man is also from the wild.

If you choose to no longer live in the wild then dont sit in the city and criticize people who choose to remain in the wild that made them.

You are born with 4 canine teeth and a digestive system designed to handle meat.

I live in the wild with the animals, I dont invade anything. Right now I am on top of a mountain in the Ouachita national forrest.

I would also like you to do some research on population control. Hunting and fishing is STRICTLY regulated to keep the populations at healthy levels. If hunting was banned over population would be rampant and millions of animals would die a slow and cruel death from starvation

Frankly, people are arrogant and many believe they are on a higher plane than that of of animals. If you notice people rarely recognize themselves as animals even though they scientifically are. Hunting/fishing for sport is a way of expressin the hierarchy. Once you have a gun or fishing rod, you get to the top of the food chain. People also make the arguement that if animals were able to hunt us they would. I'd say no matter what circumstance humans have the upper hand. We live in sturdy homes, drive cars, and use automated weapons. In reality if animals really wanted to hunt us more of us would've been mauled by bears, stabbed by deer antlers, and eaten by sharks. Its not really their nature to do these things. They act to protect themselves and they eat what they have to to survive.
However, if someone is hunting and it genuinly is eat and use the entire animal I have no arguement. That's if they actually intend to use EVERYTHING.
Its similair to why people hunt animals that are in no way for eating and make fur coats out of them. Its wrong, they don't need to do it. However, when cows are slaughtered and their hides are made into shoes and jackets and belts its much a different story. That meat would've been conosumed regardless and we may as well use the hide for something useful. Eating meat is a natural part of our diet. I don't tell Polar bears to stop eating fish or lions to stop harming gazelles. Its just in the programming and its all natural.
Hunting purely for sport is, however, horrendous and the people who do that are not "sportsmen" or adventurous, they're cowards and murderers.

To be nice, hunting is an act of kindness if we did not kill certain species (deer, moose, elk, elephants) that we have removed the natural predators for (wolves, tigers, coyotes, lions)
we would soon be so overpopulated with them that it would become a health risk. (deer in kansas is a huge example)
As for a personal level it's the attempt, its the life and death struggle. Its to know that if we HAD to go back to old times that we could survive. To put us in touch with our older generations, to acknowledge and EXPERIENCE the struggle between life and death.

Remember if their were no hunters there would be no preserves or national parks.

that's like asking why do people hunt? fishing is a sport and a way to get food. Just like hunting, the fish that they catch during competitions, they eat. Me being a hunter and a fisher, the rule is no meat goes to waist. and fish and game strongly enforces that!!

historically some types of animals seem like they are meant to be cooked at 350 degrees until done like deer, elk, turkey, duck. I do think though that many people do not hunt for the right reason i.e. if you shoot a deer don't just keep putting bullets in it if you are not aiming

it starts with the need to eat and ends with the fact that it is a skill which is not so easy to do unless you are a natural and it's competitive when someone is better but you know you can improve or do better if the weather is right! Have you ever tried it? It's one of those things like culinary art or LaCross...lol
