Why?
A strong, healthy marriage is the best thing in life (I say this after 2 year's marriage so far). While it may be true that in the past people sometimes stayed in marriages when they shouldn't have, today people give up too easily. "Oh, marriage isn't perfect bliss every second of the day, so I'm not interested." Well, boo hoo. Whatever happened to integrity, perseverance, and a belief in something larger/more important than oneself?
Marriage is work. Whoever said that 'if you have to work at it, it isn't right... it should come effortlessly" was lying. Love itself, if real, is eternal and perpetual, but the 'mechanics' of being married are very often foreign and unnatural to us.
Can love exist outside of marriage? Yes, but marriage is the optimal state in which to love... and CERTAINLY the ideal state in which to raise kids. Selfish fools should work harder at their marriage rather than simply divorcing at the first sign of trouble and messing up those kids' heads.
