Many of the depictions of older women can be demeaning whereas younger women are often revered.. News presenters for example are usually a studious/serious man often middle aged or older coupled with a glamorous young corrected/slim/attractive female..

Many other examples - such as Mother-In-Law jokes, older women being ommited from many TV shows unless they LOOK young etc..

Is this a cultural thing or something which derives from biological drives and given cultural expression - ie society finds fertile looking women most appealling?

I always assumed that most white racist where young males with social problems. After being on yahoo answers for a while. I've noticed that many are female...I see more girls then guys. I also saw a special on TV called the outsiders primetime and they were showing all these white women racist, even one letting her twin girls be the racist version of mary-kate and ashley by singing racist songs and actually touring. Is anybody as surprised as me? Talk about learning something...

Where are you guys? why do you hide behind your computer screen and talk s**t via a keyboard? When I'm out in public White women are friendly with me and White men flirt with me. I have yet to come across blatant racism so if there are so many racist in this world then where are you? Come out of your hiding places and make yourself seen and heard on the streets. As a matter of fact, go to the "hood" and talk your nonsense. I DARE YOU!! I had to get that off my chest because there are actually people on this site asking legitimate questions and then you have the jerks that make it a point to hurt other peoples feelings. WHY??

I am not scared of them it’s just that I think they are too reckless and do not consider the consequences of their actions. I also think they are bullies pretty much across the board in that they have a tendency to start stuff with people they are sure they can beat. I grew up in the "hood" and I had many fights. People tested me because being mixed race I stood out. But I was tough as nails and I never lost a head up fight. So what happened after I kicked just about every "thugs" *** was whenever there was beef they would jump me. To me this is a tactic employed by cowards. So to this day when I am in a large group of young black males I got my guard up.

I am mostly Irish but have dark eyes and hair. I get mistaken for Hispanic, Italian, and Jewish. My skin is very fair, freckly, and my nose is average. My hair is not curly at all, but not super straight.

Last week at work, an older Jewish lady (I work at an ice cream shop) if I was Jewish & when I said no, I'm Irish she smirked (like she didn't believe me) winked at me, and said "you don't have to hide your Jewishness from me".

Then, yesterday I was in a store and an (American) lady started speaking to me in Spanish. When I didn't understand, she said "oh, you're not Latina?"? I told her, "no, I'm Irish." she looked at me incredulously and she said "you have nothing to be ashamed of, we're a proud people."

anyone else that is irish sans the red hair and green eyes? why won't anyone believe me? :)!

Is there any other reason than doing cocaine that someone would have a very long pinkie nail? In the last few weeks, I've noticed several nice, respectable guys with this (one a Hispanic waiter at a restaurant, another a white clerk at a store). The rest of their nails were trimmed short. Is there any cultural reason or anything that people would have this?

My mom really doesn't want me to read or watch Harry Potter books or movies, because we're christians and alot of other Christians don't like Harry Potter and all that. But she went to the Library and got me these fantasy books with TONS of witchcraft and magic in it that i liked. So i dont understand why she wont let me like Harry Potter. Lots of my friends watch Harry Potter and they're Christians too, so i just wanna know how you think i should talk to her and win her over... thanks.

Lack of coordination and confusion in the wake of Katrina has raised many questions. There are many religious groups that provide hurricane, tsunami, and earthquake relief, and, as always during disasters, various public officials became the scapegoats for our general lack of preparation for mega-disasters. Such an army could have multiple purposes: first, forming a command post, giving logistical support, providing a "war room" to supply coordination and strategy, and offering coordination of voluntary efforts with the approval of all involved. Secondly, serving as a prototype for a permanent worldwide relief force to supplant armies of destruction on the theory that, as we become more committed to the daunting task of relieving human suffering, we collectively become more reluctant to add to it through war! Everybody could help. A "positive heroism" ethic might replace militarism and gang ethics. The education and engineering corps of the this army could quickly set up schools..

Any suggestions on good book, computer games to play, or websites to visit, hobbies I could start etc. I've never been home alone before and will be so for about a month. Thanks.

I'm watching a farm for some friends that are out of the country, there are no towns around and I have no friends this far from home. I'm 17 so I can't go to any local clubs.
