My mom really doesn't want me to read or watch Harry Potter books or movies, because we're christians and alot of other Christians don't like Harry Potter and all that. But she went to the Library and got me these fantasy books with TONS of witchcraft and magic in it that i liked. So i dont understand why she wont let me like Harry Potter. Lots of my friends watch Harry Potter and they're Christians too, so i just wanna know how you think i should talk to her and win her over... thanks.

PRINT OFF A COPY OF THIS WEBSITE, and show it to her. If this doesn't change her mind, nothing will. It is all about how Harry Potter is filled with Christian symbolism. This guy (John Granger) also wrote a book called "Finding God In Harry Potter", which is available at most Christian bookstores. This is your best bet:

You can also mention that JK Rowling is a member of the Church of Scotland (not Wicca, as some false rumours have suggested).

Good Luck, these books are so amazing and filled with moral values and symbolism that are completely in tune with Christian interpretations of scripture.

ok. first of all, harry potter has NOTHING to do with christianity. it is a fantasy, a fairy tale, a children's book. a story. i am a christian and i LOVE harry potter books. i am smart enough to know what is a "story" and what is demonic, negative, mean, or wrong. and this story is full of Friendship, Love, Trust, Teachers, Good and Evil....???? how is that "demonic"? and if she lets u read ANYTHING regarding witchcraft in a child's story, there's no reason not to read HP. it is akin to magic from halloween, witches and broomsticks and spells...as a Christian, tell her u are BETTER equipped to tell what IS right and wrong. therefore, u are going to be living in a world where ur parents are not always goign to make decisions for you, and u are going to need the smarts on how to deal with what u are experiencing in LIFE. so if u read something, and lets' say it IS bad, u will be able to decipher, for urself, if it is bad. and the only way u can do that is if u learn about different things, as long as u aren't the kind of person who tries to learn spells and stuff, i'm pretty sure it's a safe thing to read the books. anyways u can go to the library and find way more "bad" books that actually have to do w/ REAL witchcraft..is that what she wants you to do??? =T

Many Christians with beliefs similar to your mom's are extremely stubborn, so there may not be any way to convince her. However, you could try explaining to her that you are strong in your faith and would enjoy reading Harry Potter because it's an entertaining fictional story--not because you think you could become a witch. Tell her there are many Christians who enjoy reading Harry Potter--the minister's family at my church read it. It's an imaginary world that's fun to read about--nothing more. At some point in your education, you will likely end up reading books your mom won't like because of their language and content. The books are literature, though, and they'll be an important part of learning (Catcher in the Rye, for example). Let her know that you are responsible and strong enough not to change your beliefs based on what you read in a book. Hopefully she'll cave in!

Just ask her to explain the difference between the books that she brings you from the Library and Harry Potter story. She will either give you a valid answer or may be open to listen to your point of view.

go over a friends house, and watch the movies, you can earn money, buy the books, and read them at night. I hate people that are against harry potter there is nothing wrong with it. I am so disgusted with the christian community about that that i am thinking of droping my religion. HARRY POTTER IS NOT EVIL.

I'm Wiccan (and not a Satan worshipper. For the love of all that's dear, we DON'T believe in the Christian concept of God or Satan).

You're mom does not understand that we are nature worshippers and that what is in the Harry Potter books is fiction. We don't make things appear and disappear. We follow the turning of the seasons and believe in a male and female God and Goddess. It is very much like what is in the stories. Please tell your mom that the films are fiction. Also tell her to actually read a book about Wicca. I recommend Scott Cunningham's 'Truth About Witchcraft Today'. Please, she needs to understand what Witches are truly about.

Has she ever read the books? My family is christian and my mom never wanted me to read it. I left out one of my books and my mom pick it up and she started reading it. When I got home she told me she had read the book and she told me I could read them. So try to get your mom to read the books and she might let you read them.

What your Mom is really trying to do, is protect you from Wiccan, Masons (Star of the east- womens division) and essentially those who worship satan as God, ok?

Granted, adults and those who understand know that Harry Potter is just as much a myth as the acient legends of Greece or Rome.

Your mother is right to be concerned, however- there is a LOT of evil, satanic overtones and what is called "subconsious teaching" that doing evil is OK.

Ever notice theres no God in these storys but evil is everywhere? It teaches evil, the bottom line is

I agree with her on that one.

Harry Potter has to do with spiritism, such as divination,so it is best not to watch it. I myself at one point hated not to watch HP because they were good, but sooner in time, you will not regret this. God created you, and he detests (hates) spiritism, because it is from Satan, so giving up something you really like is one step closer to God. He gave you your life, so it is more important than a mere book. If you can sacrifice it for him, you are doing a good thing. The more people see and read HP, the more they think there are such things as good witches. There is NO such thing.if they weren't evil, they wouldn't be called "witches".
