And I do mean city NOT town as there are millions of beautiful towns. I live in Nottingham which is a dump and all the midlands cities Derby, Leicester, Birmingham really dont have that much going for them in the way of parks, old fashioned buildings.. or even trees!. I think York is very pretty and cultured. Its got that old fashioned feel to it. But I think the most beautiful I have seen is Edinburgh. What do you think?

that makes you a bigot. I think we need to ask these questions. I think that's were all the ignorance comes from...the lack of knowledge. That's the problem with race in America. Too many people have shoved their question into the back of the closet and never get the information they need so they make stereotypes and assumption. Asking racial questions don't make you a bigot, even answering them in a niave way doesn't make you a bigot. Not asking them at all and learning something form them makes me think about you. No. you may not always like the answer, but sometimes you really can learn something form the good and negative answers.

all these superficial things like taking showers, washing your clothes every week, etc. are so irrelevant when you think about it. why can't people just ignore all that stuff and focus on the real me?

I was just wondering why it is that when Desis realize that a fellow indian is actually from Trinidad or Guyana they express a look of disgust? Anyone from a Desi family in which they hear why their parents may or may not like Trinidadian or Guyanese Indians? Do they think they are really/ truly Indian, being that they practice the same religion (Hinduism). From my personal experience, after a desi individual speaks to me in Hindi and realizes that I am not from India they are revolted. Why is this? Does the younger generation think the same way?

I just read the thread about Britain, and many wrote "I love the accents." Uh, have you heard the Brummie accent?

Don't get me wrong. I love the accents too, but only some of them. Americans seem to think there is only one accent in Britain, which is the posh Queen's English. And all Brits drink tea at 4 pm and wear suits of course...

This is why only a fraction of Americans actually have passports and are worldly...the rest's idea of a vacation is to Wal-mart.

(And before you guys insult me--bringing such hilarity--my mother is English and I have lived there. My fiance is also English.)

When I was in school we had to use the correct tenses of verbs and use the correct nouns and spell correctly, not in slang. Many people on yahoo answers talk in slang and use terms like "why is they" instead of why are they" and I wonder if they do this in their everyday life? Cultural differences aren't an excuse and neither is ebonics or anything else. If I used improper English when I was in school, I would have gotten a bad grade regardless of my cultural upbringing. School is supposed to teach us to use correct English isn't it? Am I missing something here?
