all these superficial things like taking showers, washing your clothes every week, etc. are so irrelevant when you think about it. why can't people just ignore all that stuff and focus on the real me?

I'd have a hard time focusing on the real you when the stench coming off of you would be unbearable

In todays society certain smells or odors are less frequent then in the past. I grew up on a dairy and because I smelled the **** and rotting grass every day I became used to and no longer noticed it when everyone else did. How this relates to you is this; now that a shower and clean clothes is considered normal, people who don't shower advertise themselves by their normal scents that are otherwise masked by perfumes and deoderants. These scents are often offensive, similar to car piss or chicken crap. If someone farts you plug your nose and say some sarcastic remark. If you smell a "dirty" person it is hard to ignore that scent because of the power of ones nose. So next time you drive by a paper mill, or dairy farm take a deep smell and then after you are done choking try to ignore it. Hard to do. That is why people give you a hard time. Also they are probably shallow and mean. :)

i like to wear stained clothes cause i cant were white it turns black shortly i like being dirty stinky and not brush my teeth or hair because i have great potential and if i dress sharp the women might attack me so but most people if they look at me they would not think im clean they do not know they would rather make an asumtion i would rather play hard and be stinky than be stiff and stuffed and im not dripping in cash i clean the earth alot an recycle like you dont even know enough for many people and i think that since many people dont they should have to pay 3 times as much thought im very busy but not dripping in cash to me nice or not dressed they can be mean either way i guess it would take a few special people and isnt that what your looking for it is hard not to git discouraged and sift thru the dukey to git a good worm shower bathe walk arround naked your still the same person

I don't think it makes you less of a person but it doesn't say much about what you think of yourself, the fact that you have no regard in taking care of yourself and your appearnace. Most people like to look their best because it helps them to feel good about themselves and shows that they respect themselves. As for not bathing or cleaning your clothes, not only is it bad hygenine it is also not the smartest thing to do. Uncleanliness can lead to diseases and infections, I think that is probably another reason people may tend to shy away from you. Seriously, if you are too lazy to take a shower and clean your clothes it doesn't really say much for you.

Why do you not want to bathe or wash your clothes? It may be superficial to you but to me it's about hygiene and not wanting to become a specimen in a lab. But then again- you are kind of like Limburger Cheese. You may be a really nice but people can't get past the odor. You don't smell like Limburger do you?!?!?!

I guess they could more easily focus on the real you if they could stand the smell of the 'real you'. It has to do with respect for other people, not only yourself. If people feel like they aren't important enough for you to even take a shower for, they might feel a little insulted. It's just healthier anyways.

You're still a person. Real people won't fuss about washing and taking a shower. But it would be nice to take a shower at least once an a while.

Taking a shower is not something that is superficial, it is good hygiene. It is just also good manners not to offend other people with your horrendous body odor.

Well, its harder to focus on the real you when you don't smell good. Thats just basic hygien, not superficial.
