I'm going to agree with Edinburgh, is one of the few that manages to achieve both the old pretty buildings things and the thriving urban centre thing at the same time. Most only do one or the other. For instance Manchester has the whole urban spirit thing going on, but is ugly. Canterbury has the pretty old buildings thing but is basically just a big village that happens to have a cathedral and two universities. Most UK cities fall into only one of those two categories.

I think Chester. York is nice too,
but my city (Liverpool) is very green (I live in south Liverpool), has the most Grade 2 listed buildings in the UK (2500) and has beautiful parks and lots of them.
Used to hate it but after moving away for a few years ...I love it.

I agree with what you say about York and Edinburgh they are beautiful full of grace and history, I have spent many happy days in both, But also in our beloved Country is Salisbury what a lovely place to while away a couple of days. good luck on your travels to find places

Definetely the new city of Brighton and Hove. See the sea, walk the hill, meet the biggest minorities in numbers after London, enjoy culture and history. definetely: the place 2b!

I am very lucky in my job & i travel all over england so i think the most beautiful city is arundel in west sussex .it has got a big castle & catherdial on the top of the hill when you are driving past it looks nice. But saying that when you aprach lincoln from the south the catherdial looks good. we are very luckly to live in a lovely country

I think that most Cities and Towns have got their good points.
I'm a Brummie so I might be a little bias but Birmingham as got more park land them most places.

I fell in love with Canterbury and Edinburgh. But I absolutely loved Canterbury because it was a very historic and beautiful environment.
