Mythology & Folklore - November 2006

Does anyone know more details of this myth - specifically the name? A person puts on a mask of a god or character. They wear it continually for a few years but upon taking it off they realise they have become that character - that they look just like they did with the mask on! It's to do with how our habits can shape us into the person we want to be. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you!!

when i was young, a robin came into our house and a week later someone in the house died. I heard then that if a robin came into your house, then someone in your family is going to die And now I'm freaking out as one came into my house this morning. I just hope it's not true

I met this guy on eharmony, and he said he was a "non-practising pagan." He also said some other things, mainly that he once embezzled 10K from his employer, and I felt we were not compatable. He asked if we could be friends, and I said okay. I came to this conclusion though, that what he really wanted was to hang around and see if I would become interested in him. I finally told him we couldn't be friends, and he sent back the weirdest email, stating that I really wasn't "friend material." I heaved a sigh of relief, but now, five days later, I have this heavy feeling in my chest and this desire to call him, and it makes no sense. Yeah, he was cute, but there was nothing inside for me to connect to. Yeah, he was funny, often times either funny or "not on" (and he would sound exhausted), but he said many very disturbing things. Now I find myself thinking about him, and I feel compelled to call him. How can this be?

I recently got into a bad car accident and my niehbor who is Indian tied a red string on my wrist. What does this mean? And does it really ward off evil? What is the tradition called?

OK. That sign rockers make, you know, the one with the index and pinkie finger out, does that mean
ROCK ON?
Or is that the sign of satan?
Do people who give that sign worship the devil?

I had this happen to me, and i was freaking out. I thought it was just an expression but i was just messin around with my girlfriend, i flipped the coin, and it actually sat up on its edge, not head nor tails. Awesome. Has this ever happened to you or have you ever heard of this happening to someone else? (by the way the chances for a u.s. nickel is 1/6000 according to answers.com)
