In the West, we're pretty cynical. We don't believe anything until it's shown to us: hence theories of dinosaurs were laughed at until bones were first turfed up in the 19th Century. Other examples: the komodo dragon, the seahorse, the blue whale, the dodo, the protozoa (tiny microscopic organism), the elephant, the narwhal, the white rhino, the moose, the platypus...the list is endless. And there are still loads of animals we think are myths that may be de-mythed in the future: the yeti, the bunyip, the Loch Ness Monster, the unicorn...

surely that's neither. Technically those are fairy thoughts. the version is small although that's there: A tall tale is something which will develop into exaggerated by a huge quantity contained in the retelling. A fantasy is a (in various of circumstances) supernatural clarification to something it really is no longer actual understood. Snow White and so on are not depending surely or are meant to be an analogy to something; they are purely quite thoughts that commonly have some moral about how in case you do the right element you'd be rewarded contained in the right. reward, Zimmi

-elephants
-platypuses (platyypi...?)
- dinosaurs (Christians didn't believe that God would ever let an animal species become extinct.)
-rhinoceri

Interestingly, it was the British (and then their American descendants) who were proven wrong in their denial of these very real animals. The usual reason for this was that medieval Christian Crusaders often came back telling stories of animals they saw in lands they'd never explored before, and people thought they were telling tall tales. At the same time, however, English bestiaries often listed things like dragons, unicorns, and mermaids as very real animals. Ironic, eh...?
