My 11-yr old had this in his shoe today, and was questioned by teachers at school- I was alarmed, and wonder if anyone knows anything about this.

I have studied gangs extensively and have never come across anything that has to do with a paper clip in a shoe. It appears that the teachers at your childs school have little to no common sense especially to question an eleven year old.

Teach your son that a shoe is not like a tire . . . if you step on a nail, a screw, a paper clip and it goes through the shoe, you don't have to wait to get to a shoe store to pull it out. The natural contours of the shoe and the presence of his foot in it, will keep it from deflating. He should have pulled the thing out . . . unless he's a member of the paper clip gang!

Having worked with gang-bangers over the years, I've never heard of this. I will admit that the signs changed over a period of time, so as to counteract anyone understanding them. What did your son say about it?

Aww...stupid paranoid schoolfolk....lol. No, it means your son is eleven and felt like poking a paperclip through his shoe. Maybe it looks cool. I did stranger things than that, just because, and was never reported. *shakes head*
