So much, so much!
Great choice on research!
Go to wikipedia.org or dogpile.com for info.
Good luck, and sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but they're the best sites for this kind of stuff!

For any true history of vampyres and other such beings you would have to find material that referenced the Book of Pacts, but this material isn't just laying around for anybody to research it. Every other "historical" accounting of vampyres tends to assume vapyrism to be fables or a result of a mental or physical instability.
BTW There are basically three different types of vampyres. 1) Original vampyres, 2) people who become vampyres through other vampyres, and 3) people who become vampyres through a spell or a curse. Each of these types of vampyres has their own attributes which don't necessarily apply to another type. The same is true concerning methods to destroy them.
Original vampyres can alter their form to take on the appearance of that of many animals. Their ability wavers, however, during daylight hours, but they can exist in daylight. They are limited in where they can travel, as they are not able to cross running water. This is the main reason why they turn people into vampyres, to use as to some extent as servants since they won't share this same inability. The people they turn can't exist in daylight, though, and are limited in what they can morph into. Those who have become vampyres through a spell or curse are limited by the specific spell or curse used to turn them.
All vampyres are vulnerable to pure silver, but it only serves to poison them not destroy them. There are two methods of destroying a vampyre which is common to all types of vampyres. The first is to destroy their heart with a piece of oak. The second is to decapitate the vampyre, thoroughly burn its remains and scatter the remains in separate locations.

more than likely, your friend has chosen to live a "vampire lifestyle". This may included drinking blood in small amounts. I recommend looking for cultural references to a lifestyle rather than any information on "real" vampires.
