I recently got into a bad car accident and my niehbor who is Indian tied a red string on my wrist. What does this mean? And does it really ward off evil? What is the tradition called?

I would ask my niehbor but she left town.
Please help

Rationalist 'libido' has shared her ignorance again. Taveez is an Urdu word and has nothing to do with Hindu practices. What your friend has done is a Rakshya Sutra tied around your hand to rejuvenate your inner strength that normally protects from the evil forces around, including those within. I being a Christian, perhaps know more about Hinduism because I study with lots of conviction and try to reach the truth irrespective of its source. But 'libido' like Hindus are stranger to their own literature and try to impart ignorance to non-Hindus. It is a shame for false intellectuals among Hindus.

well, according to tradition it is supposed to ward off evil. What happens is that they do some mantras and other things on the string and so it is said to have power to protect. As for me I would not believe in it because if you do trust God will all your heart he will protect.. And because this involves mantras and other rituals I would say it involves the spirit realm and evil spirits as well. So its for you to decide.. and well am a christian from India :)

Yes this is a very great thing. This shows that your neighbour loves you a lot because this a symbol which protects us from bad and evil. This is just an indian tradition.I know because i am also an indian. Some ppl believe in this but some do not.I wouldn't recommend it to you because if something is to happen in ur life no one can prevent that, also this red band can't help

Isn't the red string that Kabala thing, like all the celebrities were getting into it a few years ago and wearing the red strings? I think I remember it was supposedly to "ward off evil glances" or something like that.

It is tied around the wrist and it protects you from bad and evil. It is a sacred thread which you can get from a temple, it does work if you believe in it and it is called a raksha meaning protection.
Its a very nice gesture your neighbour did for you. good luck.

that is called taaveez in India. Hindus believe that if it is tied to the wrist,of a person whom they wish good ,nothing bad happens in that person's life.they think it safeguards the person from all miseries and sorrows and any thing bad.even some muslims in india believe that it safe guards from nazar.
