Homer wrote the book about 800 B.C. so it must be earlier and recent archeology in the Black sea suggest about 1200 B.C. as a possible date for Ulysses making landfall on the Island of Circe

He wrote it as taking place in the future. The original documents quote the intended date as being 2001 AD
