I'm Japanese, and English isn't my native tongue. I don't know what "laughing my a** off" means because some people in Yahoo! Answers answer questions with only "lmao" as if they mean to say "whatever." What exactly does that mean?

1) to indicate great amusement at something read

2) to not take something seriously

3) to feign nonchalance when taunting someone

In Mexico, i've noticed OK is in style. everyone knows it, well mostly the more affluent mexicans, but in my father's poor home town, they use it too. Several hosts of Perubian talk shows use it.. and also psychologists and personalities in peru. well OK seems to be used everywhere now.. why?

I’m looking for an ancient Greek word that I think begins with “O” that means something like center or middle (my association is bellybutton). Thomas Moore uses this word in his book “Utopia”.

they now live in an era WHERE they can no longer enjoy cheap oil

or

they now live in an era IN WHICH they can no longer enjoy cheap oil

Context:
Most of the growth in energy demand in the near future will occur in the developing countries (75%). And Indonesia is very concerned about the impact of oil prices on the developing countries. It is sad to see that they now LIVE IN AN ERA WHERE they can no longer enjoy cheap oil for their economic development while the current developed countries had long enjoyed cheap energy for tens of years.

Thanks

the assistance given by the Opec Fund to developing countries SHOWS a manifestation of solidarity with ...

OR

... the assistance given by the Opec Fund to developing countries IS a manifestation of solidarity with ...

Context:

Opec has become a respected international oil organization whose actions are far from the bad cartel practices. Opec success in stabilizing oil prices by establishing a lower price band is an example of the efforts it has made to prevent the bad impacts of price volatility on the world economy. Furthermore, the assistance given by the Opec Fund to developing countries SERVES/SHOWS/IS a manifestation of solidarity with the developing countries and Opec contribution to the world’s sustainable development.

If they are all incorrect, please give me alternative

"shows a vision that is seeing far ahead"

Taken from this:

Opec’s goal to guarantee the stability of oil price and market is very fundamental and SHOWS A VISION THAT IS SEEING FAR AHEAD, as recently, more than 40 years later after its establishment, the consumers admit that the extremely high or low prices could have a bad impact on both consumers and producers. Indonesia’s current position in Opec is very unique as it DOES NOT ONLY ACT as an oil producer or exporter but also importer or consumer at the same time. Therefore, as an Opec member, Indonesia really appreciates the dialog between oil producers and consumers. Seen from Opec statute, Indonesia presence in Opec does not pose any problems and it is still highly needed in Opec.

Another question: is it "does not only act" or "does not only serve"?

...just lead to the government giving a bigger subsidy

OR

...just lead the government to give a bigger subsidy

Indonesia is hoping that the prices will not be extremely low or high. The extremely high price may cause social political unrest in this country which will JUST LEAD TO THE GOVERNMENT GIVING A BIGGER SUBSIDY. It may also cause inflated capital crude which results in the increase in oil production costs. While the too-low prices will make the oil and gas production activities become stagnant and investment become discouraged. Eventually, it will create a disincentive for the development of alternative energy.

Thank you.
