I think you want to say "Pregunte", that it's pronounced similar to what you have written, specially if the person who says it is Japanese (it's not a joke, it's true)... and it means "ask" is the formal way to say someone to ask some other people... For example if you say someone 'Ask in that shop if they have..." you would say "Pregunte en esa tienda si tienen...". And if it have an accent in the last 'e' like "pregunté" its the first person in past tense, so, it's "I asked"...

If it is spanish is actually PREGUNTE, that means "ask (a question)", if is PREGUNTA means "question"...if it is in other languaje like italian or portuguese, it means something similar...if it is not one of those...sorry i don't know. Hope this helps

perhaps you mean, "pier gynt" (also spelled, "peer"), which is pronounced pretty much like what you spelled (pair goont, if i'm not mistaken). it's a man's name, and the title of a play and piece of music.
