For example:
Me "Hello, Mr Turkey! I hope you're ready to get eaten!!"
Me imitating turkey "Hello, yeah I guess I am you self-righteous punk"

Usually I will talk to the turkey with a really energetic voice, but the turkey talks back in a low, dragging voice.

Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks along with commemorating a joint Pilgrims and Natives feast which took place sometime in 1621... a thing of friendship.
Aside from that though, (especially in America) it tends to be a day of celebrating the European Settlers arrival in North America.

The First Nations people, overall, ended up with a raw deal from the new settlers. For a long time they've been treated as third class citizens, and they were of course stripped of all that was theirs as it was made American.

WHY do so many First Nations people then celebrate this holiday?
If you're Native and celebrate it as a Harvest Festival...
do you celebrate it on the statuatory day? Again, why?

I just want to know how people can celebrate a holiday which essentailly represents the fall of their society.
I'm confused by this phenomenon and want real answers.

as first Nations people, who, let's be realistic, got seriously taken advantage of and down right slaughtered and abused, WHY would you celebrate this holiday?

If you celebrate it as a Harvest Festival... do you celebrate it on the statuatory day? Again, why?

Since today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada, I've been thinking about all of the ways I have been blessed. I'm thankful for the freedom I have in Canada, my wonderful family that supports me, and for Jesus who saved me. I'm also thankful for the hard times I've experienced this last year, because I've grown stronger and have felt God's strength, presence and love through it all. What are YOU thankful for?

About 15 years ago, something happened to me to make me remember some horrible things that happened to me growing up. I blocked out memories of my oldest brother molesting me from a very early age. He was physically abusing his wife and I walked into their house, when he saw me he attacked me. This brought all the memories back. I confronted him and told him I remembered everything then went to my parents. I also remembered trying to tell my mother when I was young. She told me never to say those things again and to stop trying to get him in trouble. He later showed up and admitted everything he did to me. My problem is my mother thinks I should forget and forgive, but I can.t stand to be in the same room with him. Our mother is sick with MS, and wants all of us together for Thanksgiving. Last year she tricked me into coming saying he wouldnt be there. I don't know what to do....He physically amkes me sick and I really think I hate him. Am I wrong for standing my ground? Any Help !!!

i'm not sure if its thanksigiving in the states at the same time as canada, but its happening today in canada. I made a last minute plan to make roast chicken and don't have a oven thermometer to check if the chicken is done internally. SO, i was wondering, are there other ways to check if the chicken is done internaly without having to cut open and manually guess if the meat is done? I heard on another website that if a turkey's leg pulls away from the body that means the turkey is cooked, i don't know if this applies to chicken...THANX in advance...10 points to person whose way of checking works!

I'm a U.S. citizen. I'm wondering if any Canadians here can tell about your celebration of Thanksgiving. What are the customs? Is it a BIG holiday, or a smaller one? Thanks.
