fourth Thursday in November in the United States
Legal holiday in the United States to commemorate the feast held at Plymouth in 1621 by the Pilgrim colonists and members of the Wampanoag people and marked by the giving of thanks to God for harvest and health.
The early Thanksgivings were special events, commemorating triumph over adversity. George Washington called for the first national Thanksgiving Day on November 26, 1789, after the independence of the United States was assured. But it took the Civil War to put Thanksgiving on the calendar for good, beginning with President Lincoln's proclamation in 1863 of a Thanksgiving Day at the end of November.

It's November 23rd this year.
It was first celebrated by the pilgrims who landed in Massachusetts Bay in 1620. After a tough first year, they managed a better second year; and in the autumn held a special feast of Thanksgiving to God for their survival.
It was celebrated off and on, until 1864 when President Abraham Lincoln established the 4th Thursday in November as the official Thanksgiving holiday for the nation. It has been celebrated every year thereafter.

Following a nineteenth century tradition, most Americans believe that the first American Thanksgiving was a feast that took place on an unremembered date, sometime in the autumn of 1621, at Plymouth Plantation, Massachusetts.

It was a couple of weeks ago. You missed it.
Generally it's used as a day to get together with friends and family to eat a lot of turkey or ham and have a big feast.
Traditionally it was a harvest time celebration to thank God for the abundance of the harvest.
