I am sick of people trying to reshape Christmas and the holidays to satisfy everyone's needs. Okay, for the Jewish, Hannakah is basically an insignificant holiday in spite of things. In my opinion, religion is problem-causing B.S. I'm atheist and celebrate Christmas because I like the positive atmosphere, being with family, decorations, giving, tv shows, etc. This country was founded by Christians, anyway. Please stop being so easily offended....It is a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree. Christmas is it's own separate holiday and leave "God" out of it.

My girlfriend is Jewish and this is the first "holiday season" we've been together. My family isn't Christian but we celebrate Christmas. I think I should give her something but I don't know when or what, or if this contradicts any sort of Hanukkah tradition.
Any advice you could give me would be great, thanks!

I just got married in July and my husband is half Jewish. He isn't a practicing Jew but he does celebrate Hanukkah, and would like a menorah. He only ever lit the candles at his family get-togethers, though, so he doesn't know where to buy one. It's getting really close to Hanukkah so I'm a bit wary of ordering online because of shipping times.

I am not feeling very happy about the holidays.

I am jewish, but my family does nothing special for the holidays. We don't decorate, and because we aren't religious, we don't do a proper Chaunaukkah.

What I mean by that is, we don't have a manourah, we don't light 1 candle for 8 nights. We don't get 1 present every night. My family doesn't even gather together every night just for the sake of being together. We have had 1 semi-big dinner, and that is it.

I havn't done any real holiday shopping, I havn't felt that frustrating, yet enjoyable holiday craze, nothing.

As presents for Chaunaukkah I have gotten my room painted, and money from my grandparents. I am very grateful that I got my room painted, and I know it is a privledge, and I should be thankful I have a full stomach and a roof over my head, but this time of year just feels like any ordinary day.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get more into the spirit?

I just spotted this, and wondered whether anyone from Answers will be there. (I will not, but I cheer on partying as an art form.)

i am christian, so i may be way off. i've heard that the holiday of hannukah is more of a "minor holiday" to jewish people in comparison to rosh hashanah (sp) and yom kippur, but it gets more attention because of its proximity to christmas. is this true?
