Hanukkah is a remembrance of a miracle in 2 Maccabees, but niether 1 Maccabees nor 2 Maccabees is in their Bible. Why is that?

I meant "Biblical" book, of course.

Note to Protestants and Jewish readers: there are several books of the Bible that are accepted by some but not all Christians (namely Catholics and Orthodox) and among them are 1 and 2 Maccabees, relating the story of the survival of the Jews under persecution by the renmants of Alexander's Empire.

way2kewl4u1224, 'rejects the "biblical"' was a typo I tried to correct in Additional Details. grannygrunt28391, I do understand that. I was trying to say that there are other documents from that era accepted by *some* Christians as scripture but not all Christians and by no Jews, I was just trying to keep it brief because you only have so many letters to work with when asking a question. I was not implying that Jews are a sect of Christianity and I apologize if it came out that way.

We haven't rejected the books of Maccabees. We just don't consider them to have the same religious importance that the books in the Tanach (Hebrew/Jewish Bible) have. We still read from them though.
As a side note, Hanukkah is considered a minor holiday in the Jewish calendar. Until relatively recently, it did not get celebrated with much extra fanfare. The fact that Hanuakkah occures during the same time of year as Christmas allows RETAILERS to promtote the holiday along with Christams.

What most people do not understand is.......The jewish people do believe Jesus....However they believe he was a good rabbi (teacher) a good man, but Not the lamb of God. That is the real difference between Christianity and Judiasm.
