every year?

I read another question saying it sometimes goes into January only. How can this be? We Muslims use the lunar calendar as well and the Islamic dates move up 11 days each year, so that the holidays and Ramadan eventually fall throughout the year at some point. Why is this not true for Hanukkah?

I'm not of that faith, but want to respect the observance of this holiday as I would like to have the same courtesy extended to me on my Christian holidays. These calls are for renewal of a service and not telemarketing per se.

Lets face it, its usually way too packed, hard to talk to anyone, and you can go broke on the price of drinks. Just wondering if there are other singles events around that night, maybe something more laid back but still fun.

I am jewish.

I wished my other jewish friend a happy channukah today at noon.

He felt the need to CORRECT ME, and tell me that its not till this eve - which we KNEW I already knew.

Should he have just taken the well-wish and been happy with that?

Or......... should he take an extra step to correct me to tell me it starts at sundown?

Is it ok to give him a picture in a frame? A professional photographer took a very nice pic of him with his family at the closing ceremony for a class he taught and I thought framing it and giving it to him as a gift would be nice. The only problem is I once visited the home of an Orthodox Rabbi(his wife was teaching a class) and they had no photos. I am not Orthodox but the Rabbi I am buying the gift for is. I don't know if photos in the home is acceptable. I wanted to buy it today and give it to him at a Chanukah party.

Lol, I was just asking how Hanukkah was celebrated in your family. Because lately Ive been noticing my family gives out...like too much. One of my friends gets one small gift each night. Another gets one big present on the last day. In my family each of us get one small present and one semi-large present, and on the last day we get a really big present(like an i-pod or something[im getting a touch!!XD])

how is it in your houses?

Do Jews get presents on Hanukkah just so they don't feel left on because of Christmas, or is there a real reason for the gifts? Also, i think if their is no reason they should just celebrate Hanukkah without any gifts and get gifts on Christmas from "Santa." Christmas really isn't a Christian holiday any more.

Yay Chinese food and movies! It's great because the theaters are always packed with Jews. Thats why Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, even though I don't celebrate it. And I love watching the Christmas movies all day long and listening to Christmas music. The only Hanukkah song is Adam Sandler but thats okay! So what will you be doing this Christmas Eve/Day?

We celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah in our house, as I am Jewish and hubby is Catholic. The kids are now 5 years old and cognizant of what's what as far as presents go. If you are in a mixed household how do you handle dividing up presents? If I give them each one present each night for eight nights for Hannukah, that means there won't be too big a bang as far as presents go on Christmas morning. I've thought about giving them one large or semi-large gift on the first night of Hanukkah and then just holding off on the rest until Christmas. But then what about when they hear there are "eight crazy nights?" I'm interested in how others handle this with their kids or how it was for them as children. Thanks!
