I am jewish.

I wished my other jewish friend a happy channukah today at noon.

He felt the need to CORRECT ME, and tell me that its not till this eve - which we KNEW I already knew.

Should he have just taken the well-wish and been happy with that?

Or......... should he take an extra step to correct me to tell me it starts at sundown?

If he knew you knew, it sounds like he was being anal. Besides, it's not so odd to wish someone a happy holiday just prior to the start of the holiday. People wish me a gut Shabbos on Friday, sometimes even as early as Thursday night, which is technically erev Shabbos (the eve of the Sabbath). If he in fact wasn't sure if you knew, and just wanted to make sure you weren't planning on lighting more than one candle that night or something, well, I could see it from his viewpoint. The situation as you describe it sounds like he's just being anal. On the other hand, the fact that you wrote to Yahoo Answers about it suggests that you might be equally uptight.

I think you should both lighten up. :)

Oh, and happy Chanukah. (Two candles tonight!)

He shouldn't of had to correct you. Do you think you'd see him again at sundown? Maybe not, so you are just letting him know now. Theres nothing wrong with that. People wish you Happy Birthday, and its not the exact minute. Or they say it before because they may not see you. It's cool, and I'm Jewish too, so Happy Hanukkah.

Sounds like he was to busy being a stickler to appreciate the sentiment - his loss. then again I don't correct folks who wish me Happy Holidays or Merry xmas - I take the spirit of the glad wishes as just a good thought and in no way let it damper my day. It is not like I have a sign that says I am celebrating Hanukkah so all good wishes are a blessing.

I'm half Jewish and I wished my other Jewish friends a happy Hanukkah without any correction. Even though it is really at sundown, it doesn't matter to me! If its that day, then I wish everyone a happy hanukkah! He should have taked the well-wish and be happy.

HAPPY HANUKKAH!

He should have accepted the greeting in the spirit in which it was given. You both knew the holiday started at sundown. Since you weren't going to see him then, you were being kind. He was being a jerk.

Let me wish you a Happy Chanukah!

He became into impolite, yet in keeping with probability he's only laid low with ignorant-gentile overload. lots of folk with no longer something extra useful to do than fuss approximately shops that properly known different trip journeys than Christmas this time of year!

He sounds like a jerk. He should have taken your greeting and returned the sentiment without "correcting" you. Next time don't wish him anything, you are better off not being friends with him anyway.
