We pulled names but she is not a person that I know a lot about. We work for a large company and she works at a different location. What would be a good gift other than a gift card?

Like Christmas and New Years

2007-12-05 09:46:20 · 10 answers · asked by jessestoecker10184 2

This Christmas I decided to choose a charity and donate the money that I would have otherwise spent on Christmas Presents. I would have been buying for my Mom, Dad, 2 Brothers, Aunt and Uncle. In the past I usually spent about $700, so I think I am going to donate about $500. I'm only 19 and this year I'm not working like I have been in the past. I have money saved up and that is the money I am going to donate. However, my mom seems to think I am "taking the fun out of Christmas" she just said to me that Christmas is about buying presents and she is actually upset/pissed that I am doing this. She told me I enjoy nothing and am very negative about Christmas this year. I went on and on and told her that money isn't what Christmas is about, but she just won't get it through her head.

What do you think? Am I in the wrong? Am I being a downer?

I love Christmas, but I am so tired of what to get _______ you fill in the blank questions in teh Christmas section. In every other section that I go to on YA there is subsections. I really wish there were some subsections in the Christmas section. I guess because it's probably only busy on a seasonal basis is why they don't sort the questions a bit further. I enjoyed the Christmas section in October and Novmeber, but OMG is it getting montonous? Not trying to trash the askers, but as a potential answerer, I am just finding it boring, does anyone else feel this way????

I live in an apartment and never see these people. I see the mailman, but it seems as if we have a different one each week. Do I buy them gifts and if so, what? I don't like giving food as a gift as it seems as if we eat so much this time of year anyway.

I'm part of a secret santa thing this year and got someone that I don't really know much about. I know that he fences, plays the violin, likes to cook, and likes geeky things. I hear he like geeky little gadgets (ex: he has a clock that displays the numbers in binary code in his room). Looking to spend 15-20 dollars. Any suggestions?

I need a Christmas gift for a couple who has everything. I'd prefer that it be something they could use on the Internet because they live in a small town without too many stores. Can anybody think of something cool and unique that would be good for a couple?

We all watched "The Christmas Story" Manny times. have you ever had a christmas like that where you wanted something so bad? and did you get it?

I remember the 80's the "Cabbage Patch Craze" I wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll so bad for "Christmas" My mom saved my Christmas gift for last-I opened it and it was a head of Cabbage with eyes and a nose with yarn hair.....It was so mean and funny =( but a week later I got my Cabbage Patch Doll-Marci=).

Our local drug store has a "Sack it for Santa" thing they do. You buy a gift sack for a dollar (11x8) and fill it up with things for an area teen for Xmas. They say the teenagers get overlooked at the holidays and this is how they try to help.

question is, what would be the best things to fill the sack with? I want a good one that they would really like. If they don't get anything else for Christmas then maybe this can make things a little brighter for them, make things easier for a parent who can't afford anything right now.

I thought about getting some fun stuff and some functional stuff. A cute T-shirt or hoodie, some lotions(pretty ones), makeup, those types of things. I want the funtional stuff to be fun too so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you were an metro teenager and you were not able to have a good christmas (one with no basics, not " I didn't get the new playstation " ungreatfulness), what are some things you might like to see? Things you need?

My sister has a houseful of kids...is it ok to just send them all money instead of trying to shop for them? I was thinking $50 each. Is that enough? Maybe $100 each?

I know I sound like a bit of a Christmas scrouge, but I would like to avoid exchanging gifts with everyone but my mother, grandma and fiance. These are the only people in my life that really matter to me, and I don't want to spend lots of money on gifts. I also HATE shopping. I'm doing okay finacially, but I feel that it is silly to recieve gifts from friends and extended relatives that don't know me well enough to pick out something other than a gift card. It seems even more silly when I feel obligated to return the favor with another gift card. Essentially, we both just write each other a $50 check, when I exchange gifts with some friends and family memebers. How is throwing money at each other in Chirstmas spirit? How can I hint at not wanting to exchange gifts this season?
