There was yet another case of 'England' being used in the media today rather than the UK. Even the BBC is guilty. Is it ignorance or just a blind spot?

There's an excuse for people for abroad making this mistake, but not domestically.

In New Zealand where I live, there are many University Scholarships for Maori and Pacific Island people. Very few for others.

I am planning on going to University next year, I woke my backside off to get the best marks I can. One of my good friends (who is Maori) just scrapes along doing the bare minimum.

But next year she will most likely receive a $8,000 scholarship. I will receive nothing.

I'm not racist but I don't believe this is fair at all. Just because she comes from a certain ethnic group (which she doesn't even know much about) she will receive a large some of money.

I believe that everyone should be treated equally, whether or not they are Maori/ Pacific Island or whatever.

What do you think?

mixed baby. They say some blacks will go out of their way to have a baby with a non-black person because they want their child to look a certain way (how about, a healthy baby, huh?). They want to have a mixed baby so badly that the baby is considered a "trophy baby" once they've accomplished their goal. Believe it or not, it happens. I guess it's kind of like the baby version for a "trophy wife." Hello, aren't all babies trophies?

I ask because both of my families and steps are increasingly racist and they both live in SC. I grew up here and there's a lot of racism, intolerance, 'fag-bashing', anti-intellectualism. People here think Bill O'reilly is their great leader after bush and that Oreiily's interaction constitutes acceptable behavior (in case you don't know, he talks *on TOP of people*)

I think because they are schoolteachers and doctors they say 'because I've seen it all' that they are entitled to having their cynical point-of-view. They call me 'insular' but I've actually traveled the world and been to nearly every state and lived in four of them...if anything, this insult is a projection. I think they know their racism disappoints and frustrates me and so they keep increasing it and making it worse to antagonize me. No that's too self-centered, isn't it? They're showing their true colors.

So my question is: is this about right for SC? Please tell me your south carolina experience differs.

If you are living in America, Why? If an American say's anything about your home country, you'll defend it, but you don't want to live there, you want to live in America, And then when you live here, you don't seem to want anything to do with Americans or our culture?

I am Blasian (Black and Japanese). Everytime I tell people that it is like I am being challeneged by others: "is you mom full Asian?", "Can you speak Japanese?", "You don't look Asian at all". It gets very annoying with all the comments I get. I have gotten to the point I dont mention it. I am also treated like I am lying about my nationality-which is an insult.

Is there something offensive about being both Asian and Black? Why is the world trying to disprove it? Does anyone feel like me?

You'd have to do a list of chores the winner makes, you'd have to obey his / her commands, and do everything he / she says, you'd have to say "Yes, Master" or "Yes, Mistress", ( "Yes, Sir" or "Yes, Ma'am" ) and you'd have to follow his / her rules . At the beginning of the day, you'd have to say "I promise to work very hard !" . You wouldn't have to have sex with the winner, but you'd have to do whatever else he or she wanted -- housework or volunteer work, etc .
