Some things are just not tolerated by parents...calling a little black kid a monkey is easily seen as racist

Not by anyone with a broad experience. It's a common term for amusingly admonishing a youngster of any color.
Sad that things get misunderstood. I hope you've made that person aware of that.

Maybe because the term monkey has been used in a bad way against African Americans.

she may have just taken it the wrong way. if you did not mean anything bad by it, just tell her so. if it's something that upset her just tell her your sorry to have offend her and it won't happen again. if she's a friend of yours, it's not worth losing a friend over.

everyone's culture has issues in it that another culture may not understand or find offensive. If I offended someone unintentionally, I would just simply apologize and respect that persons cultural issues instead of judging.

no you are not racist. They just dont know how to take a joke. Or maybe they have been made fun of a lot, and its hard for them to understand what joking actually is.

background and aberation .... we become sensitive to the things we'r told we should sometimes instead of what we know we should..... and sometimes things are said that arent meant on BOTH sides.... as both sides are part of the same conversation..... in hind site most things are figured out but sometimes hard to say....

If you are good friends or family just eat the crow, appologize and let be known that no hate was meant.... regardless of whos fault or otherwise. :) your karma will prosper for it.

oops.... i didnt mean to say "eat crow"

Your friend should have known that a friend would not make a racist remark about her child.

The prophet SAW specifically asked us not to call any human being by any name other than what was given to them.
If his name was monkey I see no problem what so ever. :)

"wrong" is subjective. you have to be sensitive to what others may feel before you speak
learn empathy and tolerance.
