It depends on the parents. Everyone is different. My parents would not even ask. My dad would hold you down at gun point, while my mum would force the fruitcake, and packaging down your throat.
In ancient Greece the word Nelly meant plate. if you say not on your Nelly it is a bit disrespectful, because you imply you will eat it, but not on a Nelly or plate, thereby making crumbs.
