Ok i know this isn't black history month, but I just want to see what you all think about us black people celebrating black history month. Be aware of the fact that we had a lot to go through and that white people got it more easily than we did. and please have mature answers no racism!!

I mean, YES, I am rich and I have everything I need. But my parents give like 10% of their money away! And I'm not materialistic, I'm just like everybody else. And yes, I shop at abercrombie, but it's not for the brand but because I like it.
It's just our life style and how we were born. We can't do anything about it! And just because you're a prep, doesn't make you spoiled or selfish.

RIGHT?!

It does not seem to me that there is any sort of honest American nationalism any more. Everyone, it seems to me, thinks of them selves as some sub-faction withing the nation, but not as a member of the nation as a whole.

Examples:

Hispanic immigrants do not think of themselves as Americans, with 99% of them, they always say they are mexican, not American, even if their family has been here or generations.

Texans will refer to themselves and being Texans, even if you meet one outside of the US! New Yorkers will tell you they are from NY, not the USA. If you travel, ask and see what people say!

I personally live in California, and I feel that I have nothing more in common with someone from Louisiana than I do with someone from Australia. Isn't this how everyone feels?

I think most people in the US are focused within, and identify with their own race, region, personal interest or other sub-grouping than with being an "American".

Thougts?

I would like to say that it is wrong and very cheap when italians are racist to the blacks and folk from the middle east. When in fact italians are not a white race and never have been.

Italy was ruled and its people have been assimilated into non european cultures well bfore the romans, The moors from north africa and arabs from the middle east have al conquered and ruled italy for hundredsof years. italians are mixed race not white thats why they have very dark skin and brown eyes and hair.

so what is it with racist italians when they are not white themselves they are a mongral race which is predominitly non european.

I am just curious...I have heard before that when African-Americans are light-skinned, it is because of some "white blood" they have in them, even a small amount. I overheard these people saying Beyonce was mixed with white because of her lighter eyes and skin. Is this true? Couldn't it just be variation of skin tones among a group of people, just as whites range in skin tone and it's not necessarily because of some "non-white genes". I always thought this seemed racist, like people of pure African descent can't have variation in skin tones.

and I just realized a heckva lot of people consistantly and overwhelmingly say "um" or "uh" while they talk.

Its so annoying and just appears like they are unschooled. But everyone does it....

Is this just an English thing, or do people in other languages speak like this?

I've heard Nelson Mandell make statements and speeches and he is very smooth. If I recall correctly, he just slightly paused without this um/uh crap.

Over the next several days, try to stop yourself saying uh/um. Impossible!

Its a fact that the native black americans are of primarily west african ancestry; since then the africans were no longer considered africans. SInce the beginning the names changes from ****a, *****, colored, afro-american, black and african american.
Not all black people in america are descendants from the african and north american slave trade. A black american is any black person who is an american citizen wheter they are african, jamaican, cuban, belizean, panamanian, or any other person with the physical characteristics of african people other than north african.

honestly stereotypes piss me off. im not saying i never do it, but i avoid stereotyping. its rediculous to blanket a set of characteristics over a certain group of ppl regardless of race, how the dress, music they listen to, etc. basically people who stereotype are ignorant and a lot of times they dont get to know really great individuals based on preconceived notions! stop the nonsense! the labels are also rediculous - how can you definie yourself or another person with one word: goth, punk, emo, prep, etc. what does it all mean? i personally think its bullshit - its another way for people to build walls between themselves to feel superior or sometimes even "different from the rest of society". these words and stereotypes only separate our world even more, creating another form of prejudice. okay i know comedy is an exception - its funny. just dont take it too far!! message me if u want. bye loves!!

It freaks me out how for the past hundred years we have had issues with language in Quebec but now we going to add a whole new issue to the pot. Does anyone realize that this country has been a melting pot of citizens from Italy, China, India etc and they just melded into our society with no fuss, no muss. Never demanding anything special. Recently the new influx of refugees are making big noises and demading this and that. The canadian job bank even comes in Spanish now, I would be insulted if I were italian or greek or whatever. I never knew there was a huge spanish community in Canada and why not chinese or Italian. What gives. Its not meant to be racist just show how unfair it is to all Canadians of different ethnic backgrounds. Maybe if we all stuck together we could make this country either fully bilingual or one language and we could all get along better as our government would pay to teach everyone the same dang language.
