I was a bit confused about the exact difference between bullying and being racist until a guy explained it on BBC one this morning (show where they read the newspapers).

He said being racist is where you stop talking about the person as an individual and start saying 'they'. For instance when Jade on Big Brother said 'they' all eat with their fingers don't they, its disgusting?'.

It got me thinking if Jade had said about Shipla - 'SHE eats with her fingers, its disguisting', that wouldn't be racist according to above definition as its referring to Shipla as an individual.

I can't see how the above 'they' versus 'individual' definition could fully work though because if somebody said 'SHE is black' then its still referring to the person as an individual but that would definitely be racist! Also 'they' comments are used all the time when skin colour is not an issue, for instance saying bad things about gypsys as a group.

I was recently reading a book called 'Narrative of my captivity among the Sioux Indians', by one Fanny Kelly, published during the 1860s. Basically, I was wondering how accurate she was, and was it really as horrible as people made it seem, or was it just the predjudice of the time, personal bigotry and/or a tendency to exxagerate. I know there is a good chance I'm going to unintentionally offend someone with this question, so please allow me to apologize in advance, and state that I am not attempting to insult or denigrate anyone whatsoever. I just wanted to know if anyone had any information, opinions, links, or or articles relating to said question. Thank you.

My scout troop is researching Native Americans, including Hawaiians and Alaskan natives. The only reservation information I can find is on the lower 48 states. Does anybody know if there are reserves on either Alaska or Hawaii (or both)? If there are, where are they?

I would like to do some volntary work with children in the poor parts of Africa. Maybe with children with aids or something like that. I have nopticed that all the companies running these programmes are totally on th emake charging in excess of £3000!!!

Can anyone tell me where I might find a cheaper way of doing this as I only have a spare week to do this and all these expensive companies say min of 3 weeks which is not realistic if you work?

If you could tell me something about this.
I'm Italian,aged 31 and in 2003 I spent one year in London where I attended a school of English and also worked part-time in a shopping centre.I loved living there and there are a lot of positive things that I still remember about life in the UK.
Unfortunately,i cannot say that I met and became friend with any real British person during my staying.I had a lot of friends there but they were all from other countries.I worked with many local people but nobody gave me ever the chance to talk to him/her.
So,I came back to Italy without having met a British friend or even acquaintance.
However,during the last days I posted here some important and serious question and i must say that I got very caring,sensitive and sensible answers from you.
Now,my question is,are normally British people shy,not very sociable or what?Is it easier for you to talk via the internet rather than face to face?

"Muds trying to get out and infect the rest of my White World occurred last night. An entire family of lowland gorillas attended Saturday night services at the Methodist Church my wife and I attend. I toyed with the idea of confronting them with, [speaking to the dad] "look around, you're the only of your kind here, surely there are black churches in DC, aren't there? and Speaking as one man in this Church of hundreds, YOU AND YOUR MUD FAMILY ARE NOT WELCOME HERE, GO HOME!!"

But I don't think that wouldn't have set well with the Pastor or the rest of the ******-friendly congregation, especially one member, whose daughter has gone and married a mud, and now she's of the mindset to "love ALL God's children", at first, it upset her that her daughter would marry a mud, but now, she's gotten used to the idea of someday having babyshit brown grandchildren and she just LOVES the idea and her son-in-law;I tell y'all, it makes me want to VOMIT.

Not one instant that you look down to another person because he or she is black(africans,carribeans),white(americans,europeans),charcoal(arabs,indians,pakistanis)or brown(asians,chinese,filipinos,japanese)?????
THIS QUESTION IS FOR ALL THE RACE THAT GOD HAS CREATED AND ABOUT TO BE CREATED BECAUSE OF ALL THE MIXED UP OF RACE.
One more thing do you really feel like you belong to a certain country even if you were born in that country but look totally different(e.g Mom white Dad black)?Do you really have these sense of belonging or you can still feel that somehow people resent you in someway for being different?

I don't go to church because I have really bad social anxiety disorder. I can't be near crowds of people because I get panic attacks and almost pass out. I want to go back so bad but hold myself back because I'm afraid of what will happen if I go. My family thinks I'm no longer religious because of this and therefore, no longer believe in God. In truth, I believe in God more than most people I know. Do you think God forgives me that I can't go to Church to worship him? My family keeps saying that I'm banned from Heaven or something like that because I don't go to Church but really, I don't think God thinks like that. Can you love God and bleieve in everything he stands for without going to church on a regular daily basis?

I'm a 20 yrold Kenyan student and have been in Malaysia for the past two years. In that time, I have had to deal with dirty looks, open stares and even outright rudeness just because of how I look. If I take a seat in a train, 1/2 the time, no one will take the seat next to me no matter how packed the train is and most of those who do will be hghly uncomfortable and face away from me. If I walk into a shop, I'll get startled looks and the salespeople will look at each other (i can just hear them thinking "you serve him!") before one approaches hesitantly to assist me. When I actually make conversation with anyone, one of the first questions they ask me (doesn't matter if it's a salesperson, fellow commuter or a taxi driver) is "when are you going back to your country?" I had to perform an internship stint at a certain company and interns from Holland, Japan...were welcomed way more warmly and fit in better than I ever could. I deal with this every day and it hurts. Why Malaysians? Why?
