I should imagine it's because they are not allowed to eat pork produce and bacon is a derivative of pork.I suppose it's their way of turning their backs on whats not allowed due to their religion.Although i always thought they weren't allowed to handle or eat pork,so not sure what the smell has got to do with anything,it could just be they don't like the smell

Most modern and Reformed Jews realize that the prohibition of heating pork was because of certain diseases that pigs can pass to humans if their meat is not thoroughly cooked. Well some people get sick if they smell bacon cooking. I do sometimes myself. I am sure they are not doing it to be rude or anything. Some people just have weak stomach's.

I am not a Muslim and I would close my window too. Bacon does not smell that great to everyone.
