what is the exact difference between suni and shiite? i feel very bad and guilty not knowing and i KNOW how ignorant i am and everything. i really want to know.

As I understand it, the big difference is religious governance. One faction believe that Islamic interpretation and teaching comes from the clergy and the other says it's comes from the leaders (king, ruler, etc.).

The Shiite Muslims account for only 15% of the Muslim population. The difference between them and the Sunni's is that they believe that the leadership fell to Ali, Muhammads cousin rather than a series of caliphs.
Shiites are a bit more violent too.

To keep it simple for you. There are 3 persons called Khalipha who ruled or guided muslims after Muhammad (SAWW) died, named Abubakr (RTA), Usman (RTA) and Umar (RTA)
Suni respect and believe them very repectable friend of Muhammad and true servent of islam.
Shiite belive that Ali (RTA) was the only person with knowledge and credential qualifying for to lead muslaims as leader after Muhammad deceased. They ignore and does not accept the above mentioned person as leaders of Islam as Ali(RTA) never bait(submission) to their leadership.
The practice is a little change in look but both are practicing true spirit of Islam.
