I work in a local factory in a deprived area and we were told that the management would be bringing in "hard working english speaking polish workers" what actually happened was polish guys were brought in with no grasp on the english language except what we have taught them ,which makes our particular work very dangerous because of the language barrier. The guys are all sound and pleasant enough but work is now unsafe....has anyone got any views on this?

If you go through any of these culture catogories, You'll see people just blasting away at people just because they happen not to look like them. I don't understand where someone can dare open their mouth and say there is no racism and you go through this simple forum to see blasting any thing that isn't caucasian. It will be interesting to see how much has changed in 2050 when the majority isn't caucasian any more. Will the south still be the south? lol

MY FREAKIN best friend?
Last week, my friend got suspended for calling these guys the n-word. They were bothering her. She returned this week. Okay today someone girl asked her why she got suspended and she said because she called a ni**er a ni**er. I'm black so of course i was offended. Then at lunch they were playing hip hop music she was like they need to turn that ni**er sh*t off. Some girl she's hispanic was listening to hip hop or black music and she was like why do you listen to that ni**er sh*t, I listen to pure chicano rap. It's really beginning to piss me off. Well anyways, there was three white people at the table and she has some girl and tell them to get up and leave because this was pure Mexican table. Advice me please. I don't want to ditch because we have been friends for about four years now. I guess one of her other best friend who is 1/4 black 1/4 spanish and 1/2 native american is not talking to her at all. what should i do?

Like there are certain names that would sound really strange on a caucasion person but on an african person it sounds fine...and the other way around. * same way with an african name with a hispanic person or a hispanic name with a caucasion*

It's very common for people who define themselves as heterosexual/homosexual to occasionally be attracted to the other gender, or to experience passing attraction to the other gender and then outgrow it. But that's not the same as someone who has been consistently attracted to one gender their entire lives. Someone who is attracted to one woman for every 20 men and declares herself bisexual is not the same as someone who is consistently attracted to both genders. So isn't it time to stop labelling ourselves as hetero/homo/bi and instead accept that sexuality is a gradient and everyone is different?

It's named after his father, but town council says it is offensive.

Maybe original name, "House of Long Wang" would be less offensive?

maybe you have some suggestion?

What's your perception of the british people? Do you think we're a nation of monarchy loving, tea drinkers. Or a bunch of beer swilling monsters?

Examples are: Jesus Christ, Julius Cesar, William the Conqueror, Adolf Hitler, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, Pele, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, etc

Think of time, e.g. years B.C., 1000, 1900, 2006, etc. Julius Cesar was a great leader but do poor people in Africa know more about him or David Beckham? More people in time probably would know Cesar, but present time there is huge media attention stretching to just about every person on the current planet.

Politicians and Leaders change the world and the way we live, but presently people pay more attention to sport, music, films, etc than politics. Does this make Pele, Elvis, Tiger Woods, etc more well know than the Queen or Osama Bin Laden?

Think of different countries. Churchill is a hero in England, but do Russians know who he is? Who made an impact on every country in the world?

Most of the younger generation seem desperate to keep in touch with their roots and see themselves as Pakistani/Bangladeshi etc rather than British even if they were born here. They spend a lot of time visiting their "homelands" (thats where the 7/7 bombers were recruited).

30% of "British Muslims" apparently beleive that the 7/7 bombers were "justified" and the fact that some are desperate to wear conservative Islamic veils etc shows they are trying to stay in touch with their own heritage and be as "un-British" as they can.

And when it comes to cricket - they support Pakistan/Bangladesh all the way even against England!

So whats all this about "British " Muslims beleive this is their home to? Thats not what I've heard or experienced.

I am interested in living in the Boerum Hill or Brooklyn Heights section of Brooklyn. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the area? How is the commute to Grand Central and the east side of Manhattan? is it an easy commute? What are the streets like? Is there anything to do at night? Restaurants, clubs, etc or is it extremely residential? Also, what about crime in the area, is there any? Any and all information will be appreciated.
