native American, because it is a part of my heritage. I would use native American to delineate between the two.

I would think of people from India. But I know the problem.
It has been in the world ever since Christopher Columbus' mistake to think he had arrived in India. Therefore Indian for native American is actually wrong.
Those from Pakistan should be called Pakistani, those from India Indian, the Native Americans should be called native Americans, or even better (if you know) after their tribes.

well i'm Indian, my parents are from India. People from Pakistan aren't Indian, they're Pakistani.
When someone says Indians, i think of someone who's from India..but if they say Native American, i think that they're family has something to do with the earlier tribes.
And the dot on foreheads of a lot of Indians have to do with their religion, NOT culture. Hindu's put the dots on their forehead if they are married. I am a Muslim so people of another religion other than Hinduism in India do NOT put on the dots.

One should learn to look at the FACE of person who is saying she's Indian !!
Native Americans and Indian (Born in India) are way to different in looks so you can judge it when soneone is saying it !
By they way, Born in Pakistan is called Pakistani, born in Pakistan is never called Indian !! LOL

Use native americans for the indigenous people of the U.S.A and use Asian-indian to denote those from Pakistan and India.

I've heard the term "India Indians". Ok, I'm wrong again. I'm having a bad day here. I'd never heard of an Asian Indian so I looked it up. Here you go.

I always think of a Native American when someone says they're Indian. I also think of playing Bingo because there's an Indian casino 10 minutes from here. =)
