In a fire how is it that a father watched his son pull the fire alarm or a friend watched his friend pull the fire alarm? Can a mature son who knows there is a fire ask his dad if he could pull the alarm? Could the father go with the son in a safe location to keep his son calm and to see if it is working. Could a father say to his son how to break the glass or to pull the lever down. If the lever did not go down the first time could the father say pull it again your doing a good job. Or when the son is pulling the alarm can the father say you are doing a good job and say the handle will lock into place and to wait until the alarm sounds?

With so many causes in this world to get behind a person could go crazy trying to support everyone of them. There just isn't time for one person to support every cause and be able to take care of themselves properly.

What is your personal favortie cause?
Which one do you try to support the most?

We are athiests interested in volunteering locally in order to fulfill the moral obligation of a human being to give to the community at large - to give to those less fortunate. We are not willing to pray before we hammer a nail, we are not willing to proselytize during our work, we do not want an organization that depends entirely on religious donations. Aren't there any organizations out there for those that cannot buy in to the religious Right?? Suggestions?

three major points of this question are,#1 earning money to lesson the impact of becoming 18 and moving out of the house, #2 learning about themselves and about becoming an adult, and #3 becoming someone possitive enough to impact their neighbors and community around them.

I would like my son to join an organizations that teaches good values and does community service, but that is more tolerant of others (i.e. atheists and homosexuals). Any ideas?

I am in high school, and it would be easier for me to do community service in the city where my parents live.

my question is, will it be viewed the same as working in the town i go to school in? they are about an hour away from each other. my parents also live in the biggest city in the state. i want to be able to use it on my college application without worrying.

i am a committee member for my local community based charity and it is staring death in the face.

we are facing financial ruin and i want to fight it. no matter the outcome, it's worth it.

the charity owns a large community centre, where groups can hire halls etc. we've experienced a few rough years followed by a dreadfull summer and we're screwed. we can't pay our service contractors (including the cleaner), the insurance is due and our rent income is being eaten by our overdraft.

i/we desperately need someone to talk to and chew over our options, but who and where to go? it isn't the job of the charity commission, the nvco cannot help directly. and i dont know who else to try.

we desperately need free but experienced advice.

can any one point us in the right direction?

Are doctors ever appraised? If so who carries out these appraisals?Board of physicians? Are "people skills" part of what is appraised? If not, don't you think this is immoral because doctors work on and with people, therefore, a scrutiny on how well they handle these people is very essential.

THE BILLIONAIRE WHO WASN'T
[How Chuck Feeney Secretly
Made and Gave Away a Fortune]

This book is about a man that made billions of dollars, just to it away. He donated apprx 4 billion (All of his wealth) to charity. This guy now buys his suits off the rack, uses a plastic bag for a briefcase, sports drugstore spectacles, wears a $15 plastic watch, and flies coach. He owns no house and no car. He wonders aloud about the need for more than one pair of shoes. When he's in New York, he likes to dine on chicken pot pies at grubby midtown dives.

He is my amongst a few of my idols, what are your views on him?

I was in cub scouts about 25 years ago and just took my son to sign up for his first time and it seems to be done a little different when I was a kid.
I remeber starting out as a Webelo and then moving up to a Bobcat, where now Webelo is the highest ranking in Cub Scouts.
Am I remembering it wrong. I just remember feeling a little on the outside because the older boys were cool animals and we were corn.
