If you do a Google search on the words "volunteer" and the name of your city, you will probably find one or more organizations that list opportunities in your area.

You can also try Volunteer Match

or

Idealist
http://www.idealist.org

which are websites matching organizations that need help with volunteers. Some are volunteer opportunities that you can do over the internet.
