I am in high school, and it would be easier for me to do community service in the city where my parents live.

my question is, will it be viewed the same as working in the town i go to school in? they are about an hour away from each other. my parents also live in the biggest city in the state. i want to be able to use it on my college application without worrying.

Colleges are impressed with the level of volunteerism you have experienced, not where.

yes, you should be able to do it anywhere. the college just wants to know you are civic minded and willing to give of your time.

If you can get there to volunteer then I don't see why not.
