How do you deal with them, what contol measures do you put in place

2006-11-15 08:42:03 · 11 answers · asked by Anonymous in Other - Cultures & Groups

a) I believe that the Bible was written by Man and not God
b) That as a consequence of a) the Bible is not 100% factually correct but that there may be some imperfections and inaccuracies in the text
c) That only the New Testament (and then, only the part detailing Jesus' life) has any real relevance and that 99% of the Old Testament is just (trying to put it politely) a load of old rubbish
d) That going to Church is not a neccessity to being a Christian (as most British churches are extraordinarily dull for a young person, like me) - the ones in the USA look much better and more exciting!
e) That God is "in" me (I think this is what is called the Holy Spirit?) insofar as I "know" what is right and wrong and I try to live my life by doing what I believe to be "right" (which just so happens to be most, if not all, of what Jesus says in the Bible when he went about preaching etc.)
P.S. These are my (current) beliefs - subject to change though as I grow older! :-)

If I ask a question about the parts of the bible where god tells someone to enslave, rape or kill (they are all in there) suddenly I am taking things out of context or that's the old testament it doesn't count.
Today I asked if the bible was the definitive word of god and the response from believers was a resounding yes.
That being the case, shouldn't you accept the whole thing and not just the parts you like?

When a soldier dies while in battle, they get a headstone from the government, engraved with the emblem of thier religious faith. There is an entire list of acceptable emblems. If the emblem does not appear on the list, it is not put on the headstone. There is a symbol for Muslims, Christians, and even Athiests on that list, but no symbol for Pagans. This really pisses me off. We Pagans are being discriminated against. How does this make you feel?

"When the Nazis came to Szereszow, Poland, in 1940, the Riteman family was, with the rest of the Jews in the area, herded into the Pruzhany ghetto. When the trains began to move, in 1941, the Ritemans were taken to Auschwitz. Within a week at the infamous concentration camp, Mr. Riteman’s parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters were all dead. By the end of the war, he had been shifted through five camps; forced to build crematoriums, to transport bodies, to act as a human shield. When he was liberated in 1945, the 17-year-old weighed just 75 pounds.

In 1946 he came to Newfoundland to live with an aunt to become a businessman.

After 40 years of pained silence, in 1989 Mr. Riteman began to share his story. He now emphasizes the importance of educating youth about the Holocaust."

Thank you very much! :)

During the presidential campaign of 1880, the Christian Union made the startling admission that, of the nineteen men who, up to that time, had held the office of President of the United States, not one, with the possible exception of Washington, had ever been a member of a Christian church.

Washington did not, like most pious churchmen, believe that Christian servants are better than others. When on one occasion he needed servants, he wrote:
"If they are good workmen, they may be from Asia, Africa, or Europe; they may be Mahomedans, Jews, or Christians of any sect, or they may be Atheists."
His diary also shows that he "closed land purchases, sold wheat, and, while a Virginia planter, went fox hunting on Sunday."

So what do you think?
