Is technology causing people to become social hermits?

Is the use of gizmos or things like IM, cellphones and that type of thing making us socialy inept?

YES!!!!!!! And people's communication and discourse skills are eroding because of things just like Y! Answers. People just get on here to insult people as soon as they see an alternate point of view. There is no real engagement with issues or questions. Just mudslinging or preaching to the choir.
