This is an outdated festival, celebrating a time of sectarian strife in England. Should we continue to celebrate it? Especially given that it seems to be a license to create mayhem, for those that require an excuse - see this BBC article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/gloucestershire/6119908.stm

I would be interested to know what others think of this.

Even educated Americans will say things like:

"That's real good." or "He's driving slow."

The proper way to say these are "That's really good." and "He's driving slowly."

Is it because American pay less attention to HOW things are done, or HOW things are?

Methinks yes.

Here's a summary published in the NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/07/health/07brain.html?ei=5065&en=5e07cc1f020ef5b8&ex=1163739600&adxnnl=1&partner=MYWAY&adxnnlx=1163053747-MPwgV9Cezy+eJVY6fC/o/w

There's a link to the actual scientific article, but it's not free to read.

I'd like to hear from believers who think the gift of tongues isn't active, and unbelievers who can provide constructive comments.

Peace.

What I mean is, if you were presented with a hostile situation where you were required to kill another person or persons to protect yourself or more importantly, your loved ones - would you consider it evil?

Actually, I guess you can turn this around and ask would you consider those that did this to be evil? If you were the one killing other people and those people were simply protecting their own ilk how do you decide?

I'd like to know when to tell the truth and when not to. Some times it's better not to in order not to hurt others, so in this case ignorance CAN be some bliss. But which one do you prefer? To know the truth or NOT to know it? Why? Thanks for sharing.

Would you allow the pet to die on its own or go the other route??? (You know what I am talking about)

I do not have any pets right now, I gave away two fish that I had, because just the thought of them dying gave me the creeps....

What do you think? Are pets allowed in your religion?

(Had to throw in the religion piece)

How do I cope with this? any help would be great!!

I have a formal ball coming up for charity. I am attending with a group of friends, and one person who decided to treat me like dirt after 7 years of friendship is coming. She can be a real nasty person, and holds a grudge - and knows all my secrets. If she decides to start something, do I cave in for social calm, or go one on one in a war of words till she cries (I also know all her secrets) or I storm out.

Also there will be huge amounts of alcohol which will really inflame the situation between us.

How would you handle this??????
