It claims that early Christian leaders hid the fact that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and had children, like any normal Jew of his era, it also claims that the founders of the Christian faith depicted Mary Magdalene as a woman of dubious character, and hid the fact that she was the woman behind the scene.
Christians are offended because it describes Jesus as a married man, with a family, and not like the son of god, it also diminished the status of Peter and Paul and enhances that of Mary.

Back in the '80s there was a book published called "Holy Blood/Holy Grail" which speculated, based on information gathered from an organization called the Prieur de Sion to the effect that Jesus did not die on the cross but escaped and had a family with Mary Magdalene. There was, in fact, a religious sect in competition with early Christianity that believed the same thing and considered Mary Magdalene the 13th disciple, and of greater importance than Peter. The Christian followers of Peter eventually wiped them all out and retroactively turned Mary from a beloved wife and mother to a whore, a position formally repudiated by John Paul 2 though still maintained by the Protestants. In the '90s the Prieur de Sion was revealed to be a hoax, and the supposed "proof" non-existent. The ideas in "The Da Vinci Code" were based almost entirely on the original book.

The book states that Jesus secretly married Mary Magdelen and had kids. And that it was a conspiricy covered by the church to put women down. It listed sections of the holy church as a kind of assassin team to keep these secrets from being put out. That is offensive to the Catholics.

Also, people read the book and saw the movie and thought it was true. That is also offensive. After all, they can get away with putting something so horrible out about the Catholics, but if you put any other religion in it's place and it would never have been published.

I haven't read the book or seen the video, but the comments I have seen is that it portrays things in to be true.... such as the church hiding that Jesus was married and had a child. This goes against the Bible's teaching. But, if you take the Da Vinchi Code as fiction, it looks like an interesting story.

I thought it was a good book (the movie isnt by comparison) although I was a little disappointed in how easy the riddles were to figure out! Christians dont like it as it goes into the details of a theory (that is real, but it is JUST A THEORY) that they dont like. But if your sensible enough to understand that it is fiction and doesnt actually say a bad word about religion then I say read it... and his other books too, I've just finished Angels and Demons, that was really good!

They are trying to portray Jesus as being married....having children. If this was true...then he would not have been a pure sacrifice...thus meaning we would have no assurances of going to Heaven. Because it is by the blood of Jesus, being a perfect sacrifice that covers our sins, and provides a way for us to go to Heaven. We have no chance on our own. It is a lie from the pit of Hell. Why entertain this book at all. It could possibly put seeds of doubt in the minds of Christian that are not yet mature in their faith. That is how the enemy works. Like the serpent in the Garden of Eden, to get Eve to eat of fruit that God directly told them not to....

Dear lord people...its FICTION! It was a great read. The overall story is total fiction, which the author admits, but it is peppered with many historical FACTS also. The beauty is the way he weaves fact and fiction together to make a great book. The movie wasnt as good.

Anything that "humanizes" Jesus is looked at as crap and untrue. Fact is he lived nothing makes him more human than that. Anything that bursts the little Christian bubble that most of them surround themselves with is automatically wrong and they consider it a sin to question some book that was written HUNDREDS of years after Jesus died. How could he proofread it and make sure it is an accurate account of his life. At best I would say the Bible is simply an unauthorized biography that borders on fiction.

For me as a christian this book is not offensive becouse the author clearly said this was fiction , ( I have seen the movie and i like iot ,it was a good fiction movie ) what is realy offensive for christians is islam which claim that Bible is false and corupt ,that Jesus is not Son of God and he never died for saving us and the only true reliogion is islam . I find tyhis things that islam say abt christianity more offensive that a fiction-movie .Anyway relax dear muslims we will never burn down and destroy your ambasy ( like u muslims have done with cartoons skandal) or kill behead muslims for insulting our religion . No ,we are not like u becouse we dont share the same teachings . We know real tolerance what means .We know our Bible tell us the truth no matter how much u muslims try to bash the Bible becouse of ur belief ,and a christian will never defend his religion with violence and killings . Jesus have not done that eather . :))

Most people don't take the time to discover what their beliefs are supposed to be.
They lack CONVICTION, a real belief in their beliefs, and feel threatened by every
little thing.
All this silliness today that any goofball that comes along is the antichrist. The Pope
is the antichrist, President Bush is the antichrist. Nonsense!
Whenever something happens, isn't it always the last person you suspect?
The antichrist will be the last person we suspect.
