Would you allow the pet to die on its own or go the other route??? (You know what I am talking about)

I do not have any pets right now, I gave away two fish that I had, because just the thought of them dying gave me the creeps....

What do you think? Are pets allowed in your religion?

(Had to throw in the religion piece)

If the animal is suffering then I take it to the vet. If the animal is in no pain then I let nature take its course.

I think it would depend on 1. how sick the pet was and 2. How curable the illness is. It also would depend on how old the pet is. My dog got hit by a car a few months back, he was 13 years old. I was told that they could do surgery, that was extremely costly, but there was no guarantee that my dog would ever be able to walk again. I had to make the worst decision of my life and I ended up putting my dog down, The worst day of my life !!!!!!!!!!

Well, as a Catholic I feel it would be morally wrong to have a pet put to sleep. I think we should let nature take it's course and just try to make them comfortable and give them lots of love.

Pets are definitely part of religion. There are pet blessings and patron saints of certain animals and the like. Whether or not they go to heaven, who knows? But I know I'd like to see my cats when I get to heaven.

And I'd just like to point out. As humans if we are suffering and inevtably going to die, in no way is okay or even legal for us to take our own lives or die by means of assisted suicide. I do not see why it should be different for animals.

I have had many pets die. I have over-dosed a few with a narcotic because their suffering was so great. I do it myself if it is necessary and hold them as they die. It is a part of life. I am thankful right now to have 4 healthy, young cats so maybe I won't face this again any time soon.

I have had a couple of dogs I have had to put to sleep. This one the hurt me the most was a young German shepherd the day before Good Friday he got sick,so I took him to the vet they keep him over night for test and I had to go to work. On Easter Saturday when the vet were open they had told me he had this very rear cancer, I could get treatment but they did not give much hope for him to getting better. When I saw him in the cage he was very weak, but still had enough energy to wag his tail at me. In those 2 day he had got so sick, the best thing for him was to put him to sleep. I have watch many animals being put to sleep when I work at a vet surgery as a assistance. I couldn't watch him being put to sleep.

Twice I have tried so hard to keep a very sick pet alive--and, I did for a few weeks. I finally had to have them put to sleep. My last pet became old and ill, and was dying. She was in pain, and I had her put to sleep right away. I realize now that I had wanted so badly to keep the others, I made them live in torture, trying to help them. This was not fair. It was their time to go, and I fought it, at their expense.

A very sick animal with no hope of recovery should be euthanized. That is the ethical course of action. Allowing it to suffer unnecessarily because of your own fears about dealing with the situation is selfish.

The thought of my toby dying brings me to tears - and yet if he was very sick, and there was no way of treating him, i know that I would prefer he died with dignity and with loved ones around him. This does mean at the vets, but it is better than dying alone whilst we are at the shops.

Hi, in the natural order of creation all life Human,Animal or Vegetable sooner or later has to die, death though sad is the gateway to eternal life with God,and so really we should not be afraid of death as such but see it as it is.

I have had to help some let go and some went on their own.

It is hard either way.

but I believe they have souls as we do and can be reincarnated or just be spirits free of pain.
