my fathers sister recently passed away, he was'nt close to her and i never met her. i'm not particularly close to my own family anyway. i was the last one to find out and i was told i need'nt go to the funeral. i've just been ordered by the g/f to send a sympathy card to my father. in it i've written "our dearest sympathies on your loss, thinking of you so and so." i don't think this is an appropiate thing to do, should i rip the card up and tell the g/f to mind her own business? or is it acceptable to send your father a sympathy card on the death of a relative of his and yours?. i'm sorry for having to ask as i'm not very cultured.

As a result of another member on this site posting a question asking if atheists had a better sense of humor than religious fundamentalists, I decided to put that idea to the test. I posted the "Allah & Jesus" question about a fictional boxing match between them then later posted "Allah & Jesus Part Two" because of the various witty responses to that post.

Two religious people did not see the humor in this. They were offended to the point where they had both posts deleted. I was not angry or hurt by this action. I was surprised by it.

As a result of this action, I've come to the conclusion that perhaps the original post was correct. Atheist DO have a substancially better sense of humor. They can see the satire and irony in it all. Religious fundamentalists are another story. Given that they had my posts deleted, would you not agree that they have little or no sense of humor and are very thin skinned?

Your thoughts? And as before, humor is always welcome!

My friend's girlfriend recently broke up with him, because of religion. She is a very loyal christian and she does not want to be with her boy friend because he does not share the same beliefs and she fears that he may go to hell. I know in the Bible, there is something that describes how your faith will save person you love from eternal damnation. However, I need more Biblical proof that backs it up.

If everything that happens to you is God's will or Jesus's or whoever the hell you follow, why do you seek medical help when you get sick? Surely you should just let nature take its course and leave it up to God/Jesus/etc. to decide whether you should stay or go? Aren't you just interfering with their work?

a possible look into the how the early Christian church was spread?

What I mean by that is this guy (we'll call him Joe) makes up this book and calls it the word of god. Even though he is widely renounced by the dominant religion of that day; his movement continues to draw followers and converts.

christianity had the roman empire
mormonism has the United States

I can see 2,000 years from now, the debates on Yahoo!Answers questioning if Joseph Smith existed?

For the purpose of full disclosure, I am an atheist and I think you're all a bit nuts about this religion stuff...

I just asked another question in this section about automated phone systems.

I posted my question here because I feel the most comfortable here. I got tons of answers that seemed edgy about me using religion and spirituality section...Does it REALLY matter ?

This answer to another question here struck me:

//"Happy" is a very shallow goal for life.//

Okay, *why*? And why do conservatives, Christians in particular, so often decry "feel-good" rhetoric or what they call "If it feels good, do it?"

Pain is a message to the mind from the body--why not pleasure?

We're created to feel pleasure--do you think God gave us extra junk when we were given taste buds, certain lobes of our brains, etc.?

As a person with chronic clinical depression, I have worked *very hard* to be happy, and I'm proud of both the journey and the result.

And I take more evidence that there's a good creator from this happy baby bear than anyone who tells me there's something bad about feeling good:
