Some people at my work call a girl the "Popicle Lady" and when I ask what that means they give me "a look" and laugh, so I laugh like I understand, but I don't.

Most people today think only of doing what please them or their families, not what pleases God. Particularly do many love what God condemns, including forncation, adultery, drunkenness, drug abuse and other so-called pleasures.Even pleasures that,in themselves, can be wholesome are put ahead of any effort to learn about God and serve him.

I notice many theists here often claim that all sense of morality comes from god.

I am in a room with somebody. He is annoying me by talking loudly on a mobile phone. However I am patent and politely ask him to keep it down.

Why did I not simply walk over and punch him (after all this may be what I feel like doing) ?

The reason is simple. Although the guy is annoying me I know how I would feel if somebody punched me. For this reason I do not punch him . I do it out of empathy not because of some god given code of morality.

Why do I give to natural disaster charity ? Because I try to put myself in the position of those who have lost their homes. I know how awful I would feel so I do what I can to help. Again empathy not a moral code rooted in a deity.

Based upon my own research, I get the impression that the Atlantis myths, as well as various reports of the Egyptians being attacked by "sea peoples" were actually Minoan refugees. There is a good chance that a large island in the Mediterranean outside of Greece exploded in a volcanic eruption (think Krakatoa), and that the palace on Crete in Knossos was, in actually, a summer palace for the royal family. My guess is that the refugees both tried to settle in Egypt at this time, and were the foundation for the Atlantis myth that Plato wrote down. I wonder if any words in the native Greek sound or are spelled similarly to the Greek for Atlantis. Particularly, I'm wondering about anything similar to "water", "warrior", "refugee", "power", "island", etc.

Thanks!

My daughter works for a major supermarket chain. If someone goes to her checkout she has to get someone over 18 to authorise the sale. Recently, during an undercover police operation she was given a fine for selling alcohol to someone under 18 despite following her guidelines of asking the person on the next till. The person who authorised the sale did not get fined. I have looked up the sale of alcohol by a person under 18 and it says that the responsibility is with the licence holder. If they can fine her surely she is guilty of two offences or none? As well as this she was called to the office to be given the caution by an undercover police officer. She was very upset, and told by the manager on duty to return to the checkout immediately or she would face disciplinary action for unauthorised absence. The person who authorised the sale asked my daughter to keep quiet and she would pay the fine (in front of three witnesses). Surely her employer has a duty of care.

I am going to college next year, but I don't know what I want to do. My one dream is to open and run a gym (with the help of at least one other person,) but it would be difficult and possibly impractical for me to attempt it. I'm not interested in being a personal trainer, but I do like working out. I like the business end of running a gym. But, if I get into general business, I might have to work in a cubicle, which is the last thing I want to do. I want to be independent enough to make powerful decisions, yet I want to have the ability to dicuss matters with coworkers on a frequent basis (discussion groups or meetings, perhaps.) Also, I want to be able to see immediate results in whatever it is I'm doing.

I believe that women's lib has made life worse for women. They are no longer respected by men because they are just like men. They have made casual sex more available which is a single guy's dream come true, no more having to marry and care for a wife when he can play the field all his life. Children are out of control and are given material things to fill in for the time mom isn't there. Women no longer have time to take care of their families, husbands, and homes like they once did. They spend their day at work and come home exhausted and too tired to cook a healthy meal, thus obese children. I just believe the world was better when I was a child and mom's picked up their children afterschool instead of daycare vans and families were intact.

I understand why people do not like religion, trust me I understand that one. I don't understand why people have this simmering hatred for God. They seem to think he is this being determined to make them miserable and wants them to be unhappy. I know that God is nothing like that and I want to know why people hate him.
